Mamelodi Sundowns set to sell Rayners & Lucas Ribeiro Costa?
Mamelodi Sundowns lie three points ahead of Orlando Pirates in what is becoming one of the most contested PSL’s in recent memory.
The Brazilians are expected to announce the signing of Stellenbosch star Jayden Adams in the coming days but could part ways with two key players: Iqraam Rayners and Lucas Ribeiro Costa.
Neither move appears likely to materialise in the summer window but could occur once the season concludes.
More on Rayners
The former Maroons striker, who currently tops the PSL scoring charts with six, is only half a year into his stint at Masandawana but is already attracting serious interest from Glasgow Rangers, who have reportedly put an R55 million offer on the table.
“It’s true the offer is there (Rayners) and it’s around R55 million, but you know it’s the Sporting Director (Flemming Berg) who deals with such things,” confirmed a SoccerLaduma source.
“He is the one in charge of the dealings at the club and the others do contracts and daily running only. But as far as the outgoings and the incomings are concerned, it’s the Sporting Director and the offer came through his office but it’s there,
“If Sundowns will counter that offer or they can name their price tag if interested. Because it doesn’t mean the offer that Rangers have tabled or offered is the final one. So, any deal still remains in the hands of Sundowns as they have the final say. But as things stand now they are not ready to let their top striker (Rayners) go just after signing him this season. Even though the R55m offer is there it’s not clear cut that a deal would happen.”
More on Ribeiro
“What I can tell you is that there is a Championship club in England that is interested in Lucas [Ribeiro Costa],” a Siya source confirmed.
“They have inquired about him and they are not the only club that have inquired about him. His performances have not gone unnoticed as even his former club in Belgium (Beveren) has asked about him. There is a lot of interest in him.
“Although there is interest from Europe including that from Burnley FC, but Mamelodi Sundowns are not willing to let him go,
“He is one player that they can fight to keep at all cost. They know the value he brings to the team and the squad and both management and the technical team are happy with his contribution to the team.
“That’s why they want to hold onto him despite the interest from Europe.”
