“Bishop Lavis police attended to the crime scene where they found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds to his head. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel,” Twigg said.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and no arrests have been made so far.

“The suspect or suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested,” Twigg added.

Twigg explained that the arrests occurred during crime prevention operations in Leonsdale, a neighborhood within Elsies River.

“Members of the Anti-Gang Unit stopped and searched a man in 14th Avenue, Leonsdale, during crime prevention operations and found a 9mm pistol with 14 rounds of ammunition in his possession,” he stated.

The 28-year-old suspect, who was taken into custody, will face charges related to the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

A second suspect was also apprehended during the same operation and is expected to appear alongside the first in the Goodwood Magistrates Court on Friday, January 3, 2025.
