Your Role as a Confirmations Clerk

As a Confirmations Clerk, you’ll be responsible for obtaining and managing authorisations for patient cases. You’ll ensure that all claims are processed correctly and in line with funder rules. Here’s what your day-to-day responsibilities will look like:

  • Authorisation Management: You’ll obtain and manage authorisations and re-authorisations for patients, ensuring claims are paid correctly and timely.
  • Data Handling: Capturing relevant data and sharing it with the necessary parties will be a key part of your role.
  • Documentation Collection: Gathering all required documents to support the authorisation process will help ensure smooth operations.
  • Risk Identification: You’ll identify high-risk cases and work to minimise financial risks.
  • Clinical Coding: Adhering to clinical coding protocols is essential for accurate and effective communication.
  • Compliance: Ensuring compliance with confirmation procedures and funder contracts by using available resources and systems will be part of your daily tasks.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • Education: A Grade 12 certificate or equivalent is required.
  • Experience: You should have at least 1-2 years of experience in a practice management or patient administration environment. Experience as a Confirmations Clerk, Authorisations Clerk, Billings Clerk, or Receptionist in the healthcare industry is a plus.
  • Skills: You need to be computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office and practice management software. Understanding funder contracts, clinical coding, and patient administration policies is crucial.
