Monnapule Saleng continues to hog the headlines as his future at Orlando Pirates remains in the spotlight.

There had been too many twists to the Saleng story around his continued absence from the Pirates matchday squads.

Saleng last featured for the Buccaneers on 7 December 2024 against Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League.

Wait for the irony of it…

MONNAPULE SALENG, ORLANDO PIRATES, AL AHLY AND THE TRUE STORY

According to veteran journalist and SoccerBeat owner Peter du Toit, all that’s been peddled in the media is half-cooked.

And here is why…

Saleng is disgruntled because his proposed deal to Al Ahly collapsed after the Egyptian giants SILENTLY pulled out of it.

Al Ahly approached Pirates and Saleng, and made a concrete offer to sign the Bafana Bafana international.

Pirates didn’t stand in Saleng’s way as they were happy with the offer even though they still felt they needed the winger to stay.

Now, Al Ahly’s attempt to sign Saleng came as a result of them wanting him to replace Percy Tau.

At the time, Tau was still on the books of Al Ahly, and they wanted to sell him before they could conclude Saleng’s deal.

However, with Al Ahly struggling to sell Tau, they went quiet on Saleng’s proposed deal, and that angered the winger.

Saleng felt Pirates blocked his move to Al Ahly, and that’s when he started skipping training in protestation.

It is clear that Saleng didn’t have all this information about how the proposed deal collapsed, and he received bad advice.

Now, aaccording to Du Toit, Al Ahly could have easily came back for Saleng after eventually selling Tau to Qatar provided the Pirates winger was playing.

But it is difficult for the Pirates technical team to play Saleng since he comes to training whenever he feels like.

In essence, Saleng needed to keep his disappointments to himself and continued honouring his contract to stand any chance of moving to Al Ahly.
