Mpumalanga traffic officer killed in roadside accident! Mpumalanga police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after a 46-year-old traffic officer, Jabulane Collen Ndlovu, tragically lost his life while conducting a speed enforcement operation.

The incident occurred on Friday along the N2 highway between Piet Retief and Ermelo.

Accident Details

Provincial spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, Moeti Mmusi, stated that Ndlovu was struck by a taxi traveling from Ermelo toward Piet Retief. Ndlovu was attempting to stop the vehicle as part of the operation when the accident occurred.

“The officer was performing his duties when the taxi hit him. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in Piet Retief but sadly succumbed to his injuries later,” Mmusi explained.

Condolences and Calls for Vigilance

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, Jackie Macie, extended heartfelt condolences to Ndlovu’s family, friends, and colleagues.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Officer Ndlovu. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time,” Macie said.

The MEC also encouraged traffic officers to remain resolute in their mission to ensure road safety despite such tragedies.

“While pursuing errant drivers, we urge our officers to prioritize their safety, remain vigilant, and work in teams to protect one another. Motorists must also comply with traffic law enforcers’ directives to prevent such accidents,” Macie added.

Another Tragic Loss in Limpopo

This incident follows another tragedy involving a traffic officer in Limpopo. On January 12, 2025, 56-year-old traffic officer Mbulaheni Patrick Netshidzivhani was reported missing after failing to return from his routine fitness exercise on Khunguni Mountain.

According to police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, an extensive investigation led to the recovery of Netshidzivhani’s vehicle and the arrest of four suspects connected to his disappearance.

“The police acted swiftly following the report of his disappearance. Their efforts culminated in the arrest of individuals believed to be involved in the case,” Mashaba said.

Netshidzivhani’s body was later discovered on Khunguni Mountain, leaving his family and the community in mourning.
