Nabi asks Santa for the ultimate Kaizer Chiefs Christmas present
Ranga Chivaviro spared Kaizer Chiefs’ blushes last time out with a last-gasp equalizer against TS Galaxy. Nabi wants a new striker.
Nasreddine Nabi laments Kaizer Chiefs’ wastefulness
Nasreddine Nabi via The Citizen:
“It is true that we feel up top, we have the same kind of players, who like to dribble and play in short spaces. But we lack a bit of power,” Nabi told SuperSport TV.
“(We lack) players who can shoot and make decisions and we need to get those kinds of players in the future.
“(We need) a level for Kaizer Chiefs. It feels like the perfect gift for Christmas will be players who can strengthen the team. But we will (also) do everything we can with what we have to get better results.”
Poor starters
“We didn’t start well in the first 15-20 minutes, we were losing the ball very easily, and all the duels were won by our opponent,” added Nabi.
“In the 25th minute we tried to adjust the team, and we made a slight change. And we came back well, then we conceded from a set piece.
“In the second half, we tried to push forward. Again we were missing opportunities to score. We tried everything to put more risk upfront. Fortunately, we got a point but we feel very far from the level of a team like Chiefs.”
Cele the missing piece in midfield?
According to Soccer Laduma, Chiefs will swoop in for a third time to sign 27-year-old midfield general Thabo Cele. The forgotten Bafana man fancies a return to South Africa in 2025 after a spell in Russia with Fakel Voronezh. It’s thought that Cele would make Chiefs’ midfield unit more complete and their buildup play more coherent. The enforcer has made 27 appearances for Fakel since moving there in August 2023 from Polish side Radomiak. Cele only has five South African caps under his belt after making a debut in 2017 under former Amakhosi tactician Stuart Baxter. A report from SoccerLaduma back in July this year also hinted at Cele’s homesickness:
New deal for Mdu
According to Soccer-Laduma, 20-year-old Mduduzi Shabalala will be rewarded with a three-year contract extension. The winger, converted into a number 10 this season, has featured in all nine of Chiefs’ Betway Premiership clashes. Shabalala, whose current deal expires in June 2025, has three goals and an assist in the league this term.
