ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN
VACANCY

ELECTRICITY AND ENERGY DIRECTORATE
ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN
(TECHNICAL SERVICES)
POSITION CODE: 250525
TASK Grade 11 (R433 824 – R603 180 per annum)
(Basic salary only, excluding benefits)
Qualification and experience required:
- National Diploma – Electrical Engineering
- Registration with ECSA will be an added advantage.
- A valid Code B driver’s licence.
- Three years’ relevant experience.
Key attributes and competencies:
- Ability to identify colour-coded cabling (needs to be tested).
- Must be physically fit, healthy and able to perform manual operations and duties on foot.
- Work in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
- Administrative and report-writing skills.
The successful candidates will be required to perform standby duties. He/she will be required to use own private vehicle for official duties for which the relevant locomotion allowance will be paid.
As part of the selection process, the recommended candidates will be required to undergo a medical examination at the Municipality’s Occupational Health and Safety Division.
Job purpose:
Supervising, co-ordinating and controlling domestic metering activities for the purpose of ensuring the accurate measurement of electrical energy and power consumed by domestic consumers in the area supply.
As part of the selection process, candidates may be tested on any requirement, skill or competency, which will include pre-employment screening, medical examination, security vetting and psychometric assessment.
Fringe benefits will include membership of a Retirement Fund, Medical Aid Scheme, Group Life Assurance Scheme, participation in a Housing Subsidy and Car Schemes (subject to the conditions of the various Schemes), and normal leave and sick leave benefits.

(RETAIL & COMMERCIAL MANAGEMENT)

TASK Grade 10 (R385 404 – R535 812 per annum)
(Basic salary only, excluding benefits)
Qualifications and experience required:
- Qualified Electrical Engineering Artisan.
- One year’s relevant experience.
- Must have own vehicle and a valid Code B driver’s licence. A locomotion allowance will be paid in terms of the relevant policy.
Key attributes and competencies:
- Must be physically fit and healthy and able to perform manual operations and duties on foot; equipment and tools of up to 20kg must be lifted or carried; drives to and visits sites; climbs ladders.
- Works in environmental conditions that are physically stressful such as varying temperatures and weather conditions, working in confined spaces and unhygienic places and exposed to potential physical threat when having to visit unsafe residential and business areas and working with live electrical conductors.
- Sight, speech and hearing ability.
The successful candidates will be required to perform standby duties and work shifts that fall outside working hours.
As part of the selection process, the recommended candidates will be required to undergo a medical examination at the Municipality’s Occupational Health and Safety Division.
