Wildfire services and volunteers are still battling escalating wildfires in Table Mountain National Park (TMNP). Due to a change in wind conditions and strong gusting winds overnight, the mountain fire that began in Newlands Ravine on Sunday has since spread over the saddle toward Tafelberg Road and Vredehoek above the Cape Town CBD.

All available resources from the TMNP fire management team were diverted to various sections along Tafelberg Road at first light on Wednesday.

This includes NCC Wildfires, Volunteer Wildfire Services, Working on Fire, Provincial Disaster Management, Enviro Wildfire Services, and the City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services.

WILDFIRES RAGE DOWN THE PENINSULA

Firefighters have also been deployed at Red Hill to continue battling an active fire burning south of Ocean View toward Kommetjie. Efforts to contain the blaze there are ongoing. All available aerial resources have been deployed to the City Bowl and Red Hill as a priority, read the latest statement from Wildfire Services.
