One suspect arrested in relation to the Zanzou nightclub torture

Police have reportedly arrested one suspect in connection with the notorious Zanzou nightclub cases in Pretoria.

This comes after disturbing videos from the club went viral, showing alleged bouncers of the establishment torturing patrons. As a result, public outrage grew rapidly, with many demanding justice.

In response, the public, along with various political parties, called for the immediate closure of the establishment and the arrest of the bouncers involved in the crime.

POLICE NAB ONE SUSPECT IN CONNECTION WITH ZANZOU TORTURE

Police are making progress in the Zanzou nightclub torture case, with one suspect arrested in connection to the incident at the establishment.

As reported by EWN, the suspect was apprehended in Yeoville on Thursday night. National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe also informed the publication that additional arrests would follow.

“We can confirm that this suspect was arrested in Yeoville with assistance and collaboration with JMPD on Thursday evening just after 10 pm. He was identified by this group of officers while he conducting patrols. They could identify him from some of the videos that had been circulating,” she told the publication.

ZANZOU FIRES SECURITY PERSONNEL

On Monday, the club’s management issued a statement regarding the disturbing videos. They threatened to take legal action against the security personnel involved.

They also confirmed that they were aware of the graphic footage circulating online.

Furthermore, they stated that the issue had already been addressed as they took swift action by firing the security staff members who were allegedly involved in the abuse.

They also claimed that a man called Mr. Herve attempted to blackmail them, threatening to make the videos public unless his demands were met.

STEPHANE COHEN DENIES CLUB OWNERSHIP AMID CONTROVERSY

The alleged owner of the club, Stephane Cohen, released a statement refuting ownership allegations.

Part of his statement noted, “However, I must also address the false and dangerous misinformation being spread about me. The claim that I am the ‘owner’ of Zanzou is categorically false.”

He added, “Many years ago, I was a silent strategic partner in business investment, but I have had no role – operational, managerial, or otherwise – in the nightclub for years. I have not set foot in Zanzou in a very long time.”
