A resident of Orania – South Africa’s white Afrikaner town – has lifted the lid on why non-whites and those of other cultures are not permitted to live there.

Located in the Northern Cape, the community of just 3000 individuals was built on private property in 1963. It is self-sufficient, with its own businesses, schools, hospitals, and even currency.

WHY ORANIA IS WHITE AFRIKANERS-ONLY

In a YouTube feature by content creator Wade Moya, Orania Movement head Joost Strydom revealed why the town favoured white Afrikaner South Africans.

Strydom stated that the small town was not built on hate but on the “preservation of our traditions, our faith, our language.”

He also disputed the notion that Orania represents racism.

He continued: “The main reason why it is controversial is misperception. The people with the most to say about Orania have never visited.

“I don’t believe that we are practicing racism. Are there racists in Orania? Sure, there are. Every town has racists. The Orania model is based on cultural preservation, which is not racist.

“How can there be any diversity in South Africa if cultures are not allowed to be themselves.”

REJECTING DONALD TRUMP’S OFFER

Meanwhile, residents of Orania have rejected US President Donald Trump’s offer of asylum to white Afrikaner South Africans. This was based on his belief that SA practices “racial discrimination” and “racist laws.”

Joost Strydom told the Sowetan: “We love and are committed to our homeland. We are as much a part of Africa as any other people who call this continent home.

“Orania’s position is clear… we do not seek to become refugees in another country but rather to remain Afrikaners in Africa. Any assistance should, therefore, be locally focused. Afrikaners do not want to be refugees”.

AfriForum – an NGO promoting the rights of Afrikaners – has also turned down the opportunity.

CEO Kallie Kriel said in a media briefing: “Emigration only offers an opportunity for Afrikaners who are willing to risk potentially sacrificing their descendants’ cultural identity as Afrikaners. The price for that is simply too high”.
