Orlando Pirates: Monnapule Saleng set for dramatic RETURN!
Orlando Pirates winger Monnapule Saleng has been called up for Bafana Bafana’s first round of the African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Hugo Broos’ side is preparing to face Egypt on February 26 in front of a home crowd before travelling to Cairo for the second leg on March 9.
Samukelo Xulu, Jamie Webber, Keletso Sifama, and Bongani Sam have also been selected.
While it remains vague as to whether Saleng will return to action, the signs are looking good.
Can Saleng play?
Having not played for three months, the 26-year-old’s call-up raised several eyebrows about whether he can be fielded for Bafana Bafana amid Orlando Pirates sanctions.
Saleng’s agency, P Management Sports, has confirmed that the Sea Robbers are legally obliged to release him for international duty:
“This matter involves significant issues at the core of the employer-employee relationship that require [a] resolution,
“Our client [Saleng] remains committed to addressing these matters through the appropriate legal and professional channels,” the agency confirmed.
“Clubs are obliged to release their registered players to the representative teams of the country for which the player is eligible to play on the basis of his nationality if they are called up by the association concerned,
“The release of players under the terms of paragraph 1 of this article is mandatory for all international windows listed in the international match calendar.”
Pirates want Khanyi?
Orlando Pirates are reportedly monitoring Hungry Lions striker Muzomuhle Khanyi, but face competition from their noisy neighbours, Kaizer Chiefs.
“Kaizer Chiefs are believed to have joined Orlando Pirates in showing interest in Hungry Lions striker Muzomuhle Khanyi, the leading goalscorer in the Motsepe Foundation Championship,” a source revealed.
“His impressive performances have attracted attention from top Sight clubs, with both Chiefs and Pirates now closely monitoring his situation. Pirates have been keeping tabs on Khanyi since the first half of the season, hoping to secure his signature before other clubs enter the race,
“However, sources indicate that Chiefs have now made enquiries regarding his availability, potentially setting up a Terce transfer battle between the two Soweto giants.”
