Orlando Pirates could well lose one of their top players to Europe if their asking price for him is met.

Centre back Thabiso Sesane has reportedly attracted the interest of French Ligue 1 side Montpellier ahead of the January window.

Sesane latest star to catch eye abroad

Pirates have seen a growing list of their players catch the eye of teams abroad of late. Some of those players included Relebohile Mofokeng, Tshegofatso Mabasa, Evidence Makgopa and Patrick Maswanganyi. In the end, the quartet all remained put at Pirates continuing their moment. They have since helped the Buccaneers to a perfect start in the Betway Premiership, while also winning the MTN8. Three of those players have also featured prominently for Bafana Bafana under coach Hugo Broos

The latest out of that Pirates contingent is now Sesane. The centre-back finished the last season strong for the Soweto giants and start the current campaign in that fashion. This publication recently reported that Montpellier were interested in signing him. Now according to Soccer-Laduma, his price tag has been revealed.

Pirates want R25 million from Montpellier

“The club (Pirates) has their own philosophy and way of dealing with the selling of the players and their sale amount depends on several different factors like age and experience. So for Sesane they have calculated his value to be around R25 million. They are looking at his age, his experience and the league where he is wanted. All those things count hence the value of around R25m,” said a source to the same publication.

A second source revealed that Pirates would also insert a sell-on clause should Sesane sign abroad.

Sell-on clause to be included?

“You know what they have done now is that they are adding a clause which stipulates that if he moves to Europe and then that club sells him before he turns 30 years of age then Pirates are entitled to 10% of the proceeds from that sale. You know they learnt a lesson from Lyle Foster when he moved from South Africa to Europe. They lost out a lot of money when he joined Burnley FC in England because there was no such clause in the contract of sale and with Thabiso (Sesane) that’s what they are looking at adding in his sales contract and agreement. That’s why his value at the moment lies at around R25m. They are looking at future benefits as well,” said the source.

Pirates fans, would you be happy to see Sesane sign for Montpellier? Feel free to leave your thoughts and feelings in the comments below.
