Bucs want Mbuthuma

Soccer-Laduma reports that the Buccaneers have identified 22-year-old Richards Bay striker Yanela Mbuthuma as a viable target to bolster their frontline. He has two goals and an assist from 12 league appearances this term.

“Yes, they have been looking for a striker for some time now and though the only one they have really identified is Yanela Mbuthuma from Richards Bay United. Pirates would want to find a striker who will fit the team’s playing system. The scouts and the technical team are monitoring strikers both locally and in other leagues in Africa,” said the source.

Basadien to replace ageing skipper Maela?

According to Soccer Laduma, the Sea Robbers are willing to offer Innocent Maela or Paseka Mako plus cash to sign Stellies’ in-demand left-back Fawaaz Basadien. The 27-year-old has been a mainstay down that flank for the Winelands club, and his form has seen him earn national team recognition. He has two goals and two assists from 10 Betway Prem appearances this term, a stellar output for a full-back.

Next six fixtures

Pirates have several blue-chip matches on the horizon. A glamour fixture against Champions League holders Al Ahly might not be significant in terms of qualification, but it’s the type of test Pirates fans would love to see their side pass. There’s also a trip to Royal AM and the prospect of a Soweto Derby on 01 February. ‘Januworry’ seems to be flying by!

  • Pirates vs Belouizdad: 12 January, 15:00
  • Al Ahly vs Pirates: 18 January, 18:00
  • Royal AM vs Pirates: 22 January, 19:30
  • Pirates vs Kaizer Chiefs: 01 February, 15:30
  • Sekhukhune vs Pirates: 05 February, 19:30
