Orlando Pirates set staggering price for ‘outcast’ Monnapule Saleng
Kaizer Chiefs slayer Monnapule Saleng has hogged the headlines this week. Are Orlando Pirates ready to sell their talisman?
Pirates want R15 million for talismanic figure Saleng
According to iDiski Times, Pirates are open to selling 26-year-old game-breaker Monnapule Saleng for the right price. The talented Tembisa-born wide player has been out of the picture this season, only featuring in two league games. He hasn’t played a single competitive minute in 2025.
“Saleng has also been accused of being a divisive figure with his punctuality in the weeks leading up to his return to the (Pirates) XI when they faced Al Ahly. However, he has since returned to the stands and separate sources have stated that should clubs be interested, his price tag would be in excess of R15 million,”
Saleng loves playing Kaizer Chiefs
Pirates have held the upper hand in recent meetings between these great Soweto rivals. The Buccaneers have won the last three meetings across all competitions, including each of the last two in the league, most recently that 3-2 success for the Sea Robbers with Saleng bagging a double. That stopped a curious and somewhat surprising run of five consecutive wins for Chiefs in Soweto Derby league clashes with the Sea Robbers. These rivals lock horns again on 01 February at Orlando Stadium.
Is Kimvuidi leaving?
According to Soccer Laduma, Orlando Pirates are considering a loan deal for Kimvuidi. The Congolese playmaker arrived at the club as a teenager to much fanfare. He impressed for Richards Bay in the 2022-2023 campaign, making 29 league appearances for them that season. Kimvuidi only appeared 17 times in the 2023-2024 league season in his debut campaign for the Buccaneers. This term he’s chalked up just two outings in the Betway Prem and seven in total across all competitions. Clearly, he needs to move elsewhere to get valuable minutes.
Mdu will be key in the Detby
2024-2025 is the season that Mduduzi Shabalala has started stepping up to the plate. He looks totally at home in the first team. Entrusted with performing the number 10 role, Shabalala has been an ever-present for Chiefs at the sharp end. A tally of four goals and an assist from 12 matches in the league impresses his manager but also makes him thirsty for more. News of a new contract is a boost for the player and the club and just rewards for the hard work he’s put into his craft. Arguably the team’s creative heartbeat. After moments of inconsistency in 2023-2024, Mdu is making this season his own with a string of impressive and authoritative performances.
Should Pirates be holding out for more than R15 million for Saleng?
