Orlando Pirates starlet signs ‘historic’ five-year deal!

Orlando Pirates starlet Mohau Nkota has signed a historic five-year endorsement deal with Nike.

The deal is historic in the sense that Nkota will be the first South African male footballer to wear the new Phantom Luna Elite boot.

The news of Nkota penning this deal were announced by his agency P Management Sports on their social media platforms.

There are only other two South African-born footballers who are using the boot, and they are Banyana Banyana duo f Thembi Kgatlana and Linda Motlhalo.

Now, Nkota can look forward to improving on his rising career which saw him hog the headlines since the start of the season.

To date, Nkota has scored four goals in 18 matches across all competitions since making his debut for Pirates.

In October 2024, Nkota became the youngest player to score a first half brace in the league for Pirates after Excellent Walaza.

And in November, the left-footed attacker became the youngest ever PSL player to score a brace in his CAF competition debut away from home.

The now 20-year-old player did that when Pirates visited CR Belouizdad of Algeria in the CAF Champions League.

Pirates went on to win that encounter 2-1 with South African-born striker Khanyisa Mayo scoring for CR Belouizdad.

“We are pleased to announce that Mohau Nkota has signed a 5 year endorsement deal with Nike,” reads the announcement.

“Mohau becomes the first male Nike sponsored player in South Africa to use the New Nike Phantom Luna Elite boot.

“Other athletes using the boot are Thembi Kgatlana and Linda Motlhalo.”
