Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be stepping up their transfer activity two weeks into the window.

Both Pirates and Chiefs will be looking to strengthen their respective squads for different reasons in 2025.

Chiefs and Pirates looking to bolster squad

Pirates are currently second on the Betway Premiership table and have a MTN8 trophy in the cabinet. They are also now safely through to the quarter-final of the CAF Champions League. On the other hand, it has been a frustrating, stop/start season for their arch rivals. Chiefs didn’t qualify for the MTN8, got thrashed by Mamelodi Sundowns in the quarter-finals of the Carling Knockout Cup too. They also find themselves languishing sixth on the log and devoid of ideas.

That is why both teams are looking to enter the market. One to get closer to league and continental success, and the other to bring back the pride of their club. One of the players both Chiefs and Pirates were rumoured to be interested in last window was Thabang Matuludi. In the current window, however, he has been linked mainly to the Buccaneers. First in a proposed double signing with Oswin Appollis, and then a solo deal.

Bucs to use Lepasa to beat Amakhosi to Matuludi

Now according to The Citizen, Pirates could use Bafana Bafana star Zakhele Lepasa to beat Chiefs to Matuludi!

“Zakhele Lepasa might be used as a sweetener by Orlando Pirates in a deal that would see Polokwane City defender Thabang Matuludi head in the opposite direction. In an effort to get him game time, Pirates are open to the idea of letting him go to City  as part of the deal to sign long-time target Matuludi. The 27-year-old Lepasa, who was the subject of interest from SuperSport United recently, is yet to feature for the Soweto giants this season due to injury.” Wrote the publication.

Pirates fans would this be a good deal for both Lepasa and Matuludi? Chiefs fans, would you be sad to miss out on the talented right-back? Feel free to leave your thoughts and feelings in the comments below.
