Orlando Pirates to welcome Khanyiso Mayo & co.
It’s Orlando Pirates’ penultimate CAF Champions League group game this weekend.
CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: ORLANDO PIRATES VS CR BELOUIZDAD
The Sea Robbers might secure a dream place in the CAFCL quarterfinals this weekend, but Khanyisa Mayo‘s CRB will fight a Do or Die battle. With eight points at the top of the table, a win for Orlando Pirates will book a spot in the final eight, while a loss for the third-placed CRB will mean elimination.
ORLANDO PIRATES TO PART WAYS WITH INNOCENT MAELA?
Orlando Pirates reportedly plan to add some power in the left-back area this month or in June 2025.
When was the last time anyone saw captain Meala start a game for the Sea Robbers? The 32-year-old from Witbank has only started one league game which was in September 2024 against Richards Bay. According to Soccer Laduma, the former TS Galaxy player is expected to leave Orlando Pirates when his deal expires in June and before Fawaaz Basadien arrives from Stellenbosch FC.
“For now, talks about his new contract have been put on hold because the club is looking at the way out. That’s why they have started monitoring Stellenbosch FC left-back Fawaaz Basadien as his replacement. They know Hotto plays in that position, but he is more of a winger than a left-back. And now that Paseka Mako is back from injury, he could be playing there, and they apparently feel it’s time to give Infocent a chance to find a new club where he can play more regularly. So his chances of staying longer at Pirates are very slim,” a source told the outlet.
“You know, Pirates will always help you if you have been loyal to them, the Innocent has been. If he still wants to play and the Pirates can’t keep him, they are willing to help him find a club as long as it’s on a good note. And if he feels the time to hang up his boots has come, whenever that is, they can find something for him to do at the club. So it’s not all doom and groom for him things stand,” the source added.
In the meantime, Orlando Pirates will host CR Belouizdad from Algeria in the CAF Champions League at 15:00 this Sunday at the Orlando Stadium.
IS REALISING INNOCENT MAELA THE CORRECT DECISION?
