PDG invites young postgraduates who are unemployed and based in Cape Town or Johannesburg to take part in a 12-month Internship Programme.
Position: Postgraduate Internship Programme
Duration: 12 months contract
Location: Cape Town, Johannesburg
Closing Date: 12 May 2025
Opportunity: Full-time paid internship (12 months) for a young postgraduate based in Cape Town or Johannesburg with an interest in public policy.
Main advantage: A customised learning and development programme that prioritises building professional experience and supporting young graduates.
We are currently accepting applications for our July 2025 intake. The internship will conclude at the end of June 2026.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Recent graduates with an Honours or Masters qualification in one of the following: civil engineering; economics; commerce; statistics; geography; environmental science; accounting; data science; public administration; sociology; political science; and/or other relevant disciplines;
- South African nationals under the age of 30;
- Fluency in English is essential and proficiency in any other of South Africa’s official languages is an advantage.
COMPETENCY PROFILE
- Knowledge of research methodologies, data collection, analysis and report writing;
- Excellent typing, writing and communication skills;
- Proficiency with key Microsoft (MS) Office applications: MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Excel;
- Demonstrated knowledge of statistics and/or econometrics, sampling, and research design is an advantage.
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
- Willingness to embrace a variety of tasks, including fieldwork, instrument development, modelling and data analysis;
- Pro-active self-starter, team player willing to take initiative;
- Values consistent with those of PDG and a strong public interest orientation; and
- Must be available to be based full-time in Cape Town or Johannesburg from July 2025
