Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns were kept apart in the quarterfinals of the 2025 CAF Champions League.

However, the South African giants can still meet in this season’s edition.

As reported by The South African, Pirates were pitted against MC Alger of Algeria while Sundowns drew familiar foes Esperance.

Nonetheless, for Pirates and Sundowns to face each other, they will have to get past some tough opponents.

The first legs of the quarterfinals will be played on 1-2 April while the return legs are scheduled to take place a week later.

HOW PIRATES AND SUNDOWNS CAN PLAY EACH OTHER IN CAFCL FINAL

Firstly, let’s take a look at the CAF Champions League quarterfinal draw as it was conducted in Doha, Qatar…

Q1: Al Ahly vs Al Hilal

Q2: Pyramids vs AS FAR Rabat

Q3: Mamelodi Sundowns vs Esperance

Q4: MC Alger vs Orlando Pirates

Now, let’s move on…

On the day, CAF also conducted a semifinal draw, and it is at follows: The winner of Q3 will first host the winner of Q1.

And then the winner of Q4 will play hosts to the winner of Q2 first in the semifinals of this year’s CAF Champions League.

This means Sundowns could face either Al Ahly or Al Hilal in the semifinals provided they beat Esperance.

Pirates, on the other hand, could face either Pyramids or AS FAR Rabat if they get past MC Alger.

And after that semifinal scenario, it would be then that Pirates and Sundowns get to face each other in what would be a historic CAF Champions League final for South African football.
