,Plan International, a leading independent development and humanitarian organization dedicated to advancing children’s rights and promoting gender equality, is seeking a motivated and dedicated Project Assistant to support the implementation of the Young Health Programme (YHP) in Bangkok, Thailand. This five-month fixed-term position offers a unique chance to contribute to a global initiative focused on improving the health and wellbeing of young people in vulnerable urban environments.

About Plan International

For over 85 years, Plan International has been committed to transforming the lives of children and young people across more than 80 countries. The organization recognizes the immense potential of every child but understands that factors such as poverty, violence, exclusion, and discrimination often hinder their development—particularly for girls, who are disproportionately affected. Through collaboration with children, young people, supporters, and partners, Plan International works tirelessly to address these root causes, advocate for policy changes, and support children’s rights from birth through adulthood. Their mission is driven by a steadfast belief: they won’t stop until all children are equal.

The Young Health Programme (YHP): A Global Initiative

The YHP is a pioneering disease prevention program targeting young people aged 10 to 24 living in under-resourced and vulnerable settings worldwide. Since its inception in 2010, the program has reached over six million youth across more than 30 countries, empowering them with vital information about risks related to non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory illnesses, and mental health issues.

Thailand, and specifically Bangkok, has been identified as a priority area for expanding the YHP due to the rising prevalence of NCDs and associated risk behaviors among its youth. The project aims to prevent or reduce behaviors like tobacco use, harmful alcohol consumption, unhealthy diets, physical inactivity, and exposure to air pollution, all of which are linked to the main NCDs.

Holistic Approach to Youth Health and Rights

The YHP in Thailand adopts a comprehensive, holistic approach that integrates gender equality, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and mental health. Recognizing the interconnectedness of these areas with NCD risk factors, the program emphasizes youth empowerment through peer education, community mobilization, strengthening health services, and advocacy efforts. Addressing these core issues is vital for enabling young people to lead healthy lives and exercise their rights fully.

Your Role as Project Assistant

As a Project Assistant, you will work closely with the YHP Project Manager, Coordinator, and Officers to support the successful rollout of the program in Bangkok. Your contributions will be instrumental in ensuring the project’s activities are executed effectively, and that the program’s goals are achieved within the specified timeframe.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in planning and coordinating activities at the community level
  • Supporting data collection, monitoring, and reporting efforts
  • Facilitating communication among project team members and stakeholders
  • Contributing to community engagement and youth empowerment initiatives
  • Helping organize training sessions, workshops, and advocacy events
  • Supporting documentation and dissemination of project results and best practices

Who Should Apply?

This role is ideal for individuals passionate about youth health, rights, and development. Applicants should possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment. Experience in community development, public health, or youth engagement is beneficial, though not mandatory. Fluency in English and Thai is preferred.

  • Location: Bangkok, Thailand
  • Duration: Five-month fixed-term contract
  • Reports to: Project Manager, Young Health Programme
