Gunmen Open Fire
SAPS spokesperson Tintswalo Sibeko said a silver-grey vehicle pulled up alongside the victims and opened fire. The motive behind the shooting is still unclear, but the brazen nature of the attack has raised concerns about ongoing violence, particularly in relation to the taxi industry.
“A silver-grey vehicle appeared and fired shots at their vehicle as it was driving from Mofolo Village going in the direction of Dube. All three died on the scene. At this stage, we have not arrested anyone,” said Sibeko.
The victims were pronounced dead on the scene. Their identities have not yet been released, pending notification of their families.
Investigation Ongoing
The police have launched a murder investigation and are calling on members of the public to come forward with any information that may assist in tracking down the suspects. Detectives are also examining whether the incident could be linked to taxi-related disputes, which have historically been a source of violent conflict in parts of Gauteng.
Authorities are also expected to review CCTV footage in the area and speak to potential witnesses to establish what led to the deadly shooting. Forensic teams were seen combing the scene shortly after the incident occurred.
