PSL Gossip: Jayden Adams, Saleng, Mofokeng, Zwane
As the PSL enters the business end of the season, clubs are already scouting for the offseason.
Mamelodi Sundowns lie twelve points ahead of current silver medallists Orlando Pirates, who have three games in hand – the two met in early February, with the former prevailing as 4-1 victors.
From Pirates to Chiefs, plenty of hot gossip is coming out of the PSL’s biggest clubs, such as Themba Zwane and Monnapule Saleng’s future.
Whispers around the league
- Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos hasn’t ruled out Jayden Adam’s return in the build-up to the World Cup qualifiers. Adam’s was booted from camp last October after failing to show up on time. Since joining the Brazilians, the 23-year-old has been in fine form – so much so that coach Miguel Cardoso has likened his talents to Barcelona magician Andres Iniesta.
- Monnapule Saleng’s agency, P Management Sports, has revealed that the 26-year-old’s absence concerns contract negotiations with Orlando Pirates, not personal issues.
- Orlando Pirates recently rejected a R25.8 million bid from Zamalek for Relebohile Mofokeng. The attacking phenom could be out the door in the offseason, but it’s likely to be elsewhere.
- Reigning PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns are yet to renew Themba Zwane’s contract. Kaizer Chiefs are monitoring the situation.
More on Zwane
“Kaizer Chiefs could be watching the situation of a Mamelodi Sundowns star with an interested eye,” KickOff explained.
“This as has been the Soweto giants’ tradition with out-of-contract players at Chloorkop in recent years. Even though Chiefs appeared not to have planned it, it came as no surprise when they signed Gaston Sirino. This after his contract lapsed at Sundowns at the end of June 2024.
“Amakhosi may also not be able to resist the temptation of having the opportunity to sign Themba Zwane, whose contract is left with only five months. With Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos still rating the 35-year-old, it would not be a shock for Chiefs to lure the Tembisa-born man to Naturena,
“He would be following in the footsteps of the likes of Josta Dladla, Katlego Mphela, Leonardo Castro, Khama Billiat, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, and recently Sirino, who all joined Chiefs from Sundowns as free agents.”
