R46 million Sundowns star linked with abrupt exit

Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly considering offloading one of the club’s foreign stars.

Coach Miguel Cardoso has made it clear that he would like to work with a trimmed squad, and no fringe players are part of his plans.

According to the latest transfer gossip, a player Sundowns paid R46 million for could be offloaded at the end of the season!

Esquivel facing bleak future at Sundowns

Despite recently being recalled back to the club from his loan deal to Argentine side CA Talleres, Matias Esquivel’s future remains uncertain at Chloorkop.

The 25-year-old Argentinian midfielder who joined the club at the beginning of last year is yet to make a lasting impression on Sundowns’ coaching staff.

And now, the club are reportedly considering cutting ties with him at the end of the season.

“You know, there is alot going on at Sundowns in as far as player movements are concerned,” an insider told Soccer Laduma.

“Yes, Esquivel was recalled from the loan at Talleres Cordoba because they wanted to see if things will be different under Miguel Cardoso compared to Rulani Mokwena.

“It is believed that the club will re-look at its foreign players in the new season, so his future at the club is not guaranteed.”

The Former Sundowns coach is currently tasked with restoring Wydad back to a force on the continent.

Orlando Pirates star wanted by Wydad Athletic Club

According to reputable reports coming out from France, Wydad Athletic Club have opened talks with Orlando Pirates over the signing of Relebohile Mofokeng.

The Moroccan giants are pushing hard to sign Mofokeng ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup which takes place later this year, L’Équipe reported as cited by Kick-Off.

Should he complete a move to Wydad, he’ll join former Sundowns and Pirates star Thembinkosi Lorch as well as Cassius Mailula in Casablanca.

Mofokeng has been a revelation since bursting onto the scene two seasons ago. The 20-year-old attacker has scored 14 goals while assisting 18 more in 70 professional appearances for Orlando Pirates.
