Ramaphosa: AfriForum, Solidarity spawning division in SA
President Cyril Ramaphosa has condemned AfriForum and Solidarity for taking their campaign against the Expropriation Act to the United States, accusing the groups of sowing division within South Africa.
The two groups have been meeting with government officials in America in a bid to gain support against the Expropriation Act.
Ramaphosa reacts to US campaign
Speaking on Thursday, Ramaphosa made it clear that he in no way approves of this attempt to involve foreign governments.
“I have heard that AfriForum and Solidarity have met representatives in the US government and they are doing precisely what we as South Africans said we should not do. We should stop running to other countries, we should discuss our own problems here.” Ramaphosa clarified.
Internally solving problems strengthens SA
Ramaphosa insists that finding South African solutions to internal problems confirms the nation’s sovereignty.
“It confirms our standing as a free and independent nation, a nation that can stand proud amongst many other nations and being able to say: ‘We can solve our own problems. We may differ here but we will find solutions to whatever problems we have.’” He explained
In line with this, Ramaphosa called for South Africans to embrace one another in the continued effort to build the nation.

President on EFF allegations of treason
Additionally, Ramaphosa has responded to the EFF calling for AfriForum and Solidarity to be taken on for alleged treason.
The party insists that the movement is undermining South Africa by attempting to gain US support against the act. The EFF is calling on the coalition government to take this matter seriously:
“We, therefore, call on the so-called Government of National Unity (GNU) to designate AfriForum and Solidarity Movement as domestic terrorist organisations actively working against the interests of the republic by spreading lies and misinformation across borders. Their actions are a direct threat to the stability and sovereignty of South Africa, and they must be treated as such.” EFF statement
In response to the EFF’s call to label AfriForum and Solidarity as terrorist organisations, Ramaphosa weighed in, stating:
“There are people saying that something needs to be done to them and I would say we need to be sending a clear message to them. As far as we are concerned, as proud South Africans, we prefer that we should all stay here and solve our problems. And already, what they are doing has spawned divisions in our nations.”
The campaign, driven by AfriForum and Solidarity, aims to garner US support against the Expropriation Act. The groups insist that the act, intended to allow for the expropriation of land, will impact SA negatively and result in massive job losses.
The Solidarity Movement is aimed to advocate for Afrikaners in the country and consists of the trade union, Solidarity, in addition to AfriForum.
