Relehobile Mofokeng’s father breaks silence over Barcelona links
Relehobile Mofokeng has the world at his feet.
The boy from Sharpeville has become a defender’s worst nightmare, weaving through players with speed and flair that would make Neymar and Riyad Mahrez proud, and it seems he’s destined for the stars.
Orlando Pirates’ budding sensation is fast becoming a household name; scoring the MTN8 Cup final winner against Stellenbosch in his typical laissez-faire fashion only added more prestige – now, Europe has come calling.
Heading to Spain?
Mofokeng’s dazzling performances have none other than Barcelona FC knocking at the door, which is not only a win for the 20-year-old but a win for every aspiring South African soccer player.
Bafana’s talents are worthy of the big leagues, and Mofokeng has the chance to reopen the floodgates that Benni McCarthy and Steven Pienaar once held open.
Although a move to Barcelona is far from happening (at the moment), few are prouder of the links than the youngster’s father, Sechaba.
“To be honest, I was shocked when I first heard it. Rele and Barcelona! Those two things are on different planets in different worlds. But I said, ‘if you are doing well, good things will come to you,
“If it happens that he gets a contract there, I will give him only three months and he will be shining in the FC Barcelona team,
“I told him if you are doing well, you will have more teams looks at you – but you to do more. You haven’t done anything yet. Just show them what you are made of and they will realise we have gold in Mzansi.’
Do you think Mofokeng should move to Europe?
