,The Digital Democracy Initiative (DDI), a pioneering project dedicated to advancing civic participation and democratic processes through digital innovation, is seeking a skilled Project Learning and Communications Officer. This remote position offers an inspiring chance for a dedicated professional to contribute to meaningful systemic change on an international scale.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Innovation & Quality Management Lead, the Project Learning and Communications Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation and visibility of DDI’s initiatives. The role involves coordinating knowledge-sharing activities, managing communications efforts, and fostering collaborations with strategic learning and research partners across the globe. The position is based remotely, with the expectation of international travel, and requires the candidate to have the legal right to work in their country of residence.

This 12-month initial contract, with the potential for extension contingent upon successful performance, offers an annual salary of USD 36,692.07 (excluding benefits). The role is ideal for mid to advanced career professionals with a passion for digital innovation, civic engagement, and development work, especially those with experience working with civil society actors in the Global South.


Key Responsibilities

Learning Coordination and Knowledge Management:
The Officer will support the development and maintenance of a global digital resource hub by curating relevant tools, publications, and case studies. They will coordinate learning partnerships, facilitate research collaborations, and synthesize insights into accessible products such as briefs, newsletters, blog posts, and op-eds. Tracking outputs and monitoring progress towards learning objectives will also be part of their remit.

Communications and Visibility:
A core part of the role involves implementing DDI’s communication strategy by creating engaging content for various platforms. This includes social media posts, infographics, videos, and other digital materials. The Officer will maintain content calendars, coordinate dissemination efforts, and work closely with the Communications team to ensure timely and impactful messaging.

Stakeholder and Partner Engagement:
The Officer will facilitate peer-learning activities both online and in person across regions, fostering dialogue on technology’s role in promoting democracy and civic space. They will oversee the organization of global, regional, and local events, manage subgrants, and support local innovations such as hackathons and campaign co-designs. Ensuring that learning products from these initiatives are shared widely through the knowledge hub is a key objective.

Additional Duties:
Flexibility is essential, as the Officer may be called upon to undertake other duties within the scope of their role, always aligned with CIVICUS values and principles.


Candidate Profile

Educational Background:
Candidates should possess a degree in Development Studies, Social Sciences, International Relations, or a related field. Equivalent work experience will also be considered. Fluency in English is mandatory, along with proficiency in either Spanish or French.

Experience and Skills:
A minimum of four years’ relevant work experience is required, with a strong understanding of digital landscapes and their influence on democracy and civic engagement. Experience in research coordination, content development across multiple regions, and managing knowledge-sharing platforms is essential. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, proficiency in multimedia content creation, and familiarity with digital tools.

Additional Attributes:
Experience working with diverse civil society actors, especially across the Global South, is highly valued. Knowledge of translation procedures and grant management processes is advantageous but not mandatory.
