Student Services and Development, Sports Administration invites suitably qualified candidates to join their team.

Main Objectives

To provide an effective and efficient secretarial, administrative and organizing service to the Health Suite.

The Requirements

Grade 12 plus approximately 2 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: –

  • Previous administrative experience within a computerised administrative environment where the planning of day-to-day work and prioritising work were key responsibilities.
  • Previous experience in organising conferences, workshops and/or seminars will be an advantage. 
  • Candidates that have worked in Sports Administration will also be at an advantage.
  • A valid driver’s licence is required. Candidates that are not in possession of a valid driver’s licence will be expected to obtain one during their probation period.  The Institution will be responsible for the costs involved in the first attempt of obtaining a driver’s licence.  If you do not pass on your first attempt then any further costs are for your own account.  Failure to obtain a valid driver’s licence will mean that your employment cannot be confirmed as this is a job requirement.

Library Services

The Library invites suitably qualified candidates to join their team. 

Main Objectives

The Principal Librarian: Faculty Services is the line manager for assigned Faculty Liaison Teams and primary contact person between the Library Directorate and a particular academic collective (Faculties/ Departments/ Institutes). The Principal Librarian is expected to understand the information and research needs and scholarly communication trends of assigned disciplines/fields to provide a number of services designed to optimally meet the needs of the primary user group, usually staff & students of the given Faculty. The Principal Librarian’s responsibilities include a range of interrelated activities:  provision and management of high-level subject information services; collection development, and management and evaluation in support of teaching, learning and especially research in the Faculty; to educate staff and students in the principles and techniques of effective information retrieval; to be aware of trends & innovation in the area of user information services and webpage content delivery; regular & ongoing liaison activities. Each Principal Librarian functions as a member of Faculty Teams and may call on resources and colleagues within and beyond the Team as required. The incumbent, with the other Principal Librarian: Science, Pharmacy and Commerce, is part of Middle Management reporting to the Senior Manager: Academic Support Services.

The Requirements

An Honor’s degree in Library and Information Science (NQF level 8) OR a 3-year Bachelor’s Degree/BTech (NQF 7) plus a Post-Graduate Library Diploma (NQF level 8) with approximately 4 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes

  • Experience in working in an academic or research library
  • Having worked in a computerised academic and research library
  • Previous exposure to IT applications, electronic Library & information tools.
  • Previous experience in the design of Library instruction programmes and user services
  • At least three years of previous supervision experience.

Manager: Payroll (Grade 15)

Finance Division

The Finance Division invites suitably qualified candidates to join their team. 


Main Objectives
To ensure the smooth and efficient running of the Payroll Section within the Finance Division. The Payroll Manager plays a pivotal role in the accurate and timely processing of payroll and related transactions for the University, whilst ensuring good governance and sound controls to comply with legislation and policies and procedures. In addition, the Payroll Manager is responsible for continuous improvements of payroll-related business process and systems to become more efficient and effective, strengthen controls, and contribute to the objectives of the University.

The Requirements

A relevant B. Degree (NQF Level 7) plus approximately 8 years’ relevant experience where relevant experience includes: –

  • Working in a Finance/Accounting environment with proven experience in payroll processing of a large employee base and multiple payrolls (monthly and weekly).
  • Proficiency in Sage 300, including Job Costing functionality
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications, with advanced competence in Excel
  • Knowledge of current legislation relating to PAYE, UIF, LRA, BCEA and relevant financial legislation
  • Experience in submissions to SARS, including SARS online systems, and managing SARS verifications and audits
  • At least 3-years’ supervision/management experience of a Payroll section
  • Experience in a Higher Education Institution will serve as an advantage

THE DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY AND ENTOMOLOGY

The Department of Zoology and Entomology invite suitably qualified candidates to join their team. 

The Department 

The Department of Zoology and Entomology was established in 1905 and is a leading African academic institution with strengths in Marine Biology, African Vertebrate Biology and Entomology. The department comprises 9 academics and numerous research officers and associates, and it hosts a SARChI Chair in Applied Agricultural Entomology and the Centre for Biological Control. The department has a long and prestigious history in graduating postgraduate students and producing high quality research publications, and the academic staff enjoy considerable international recognition for their research.

The Requirements

Senior Lecturer:

  • At least a PhD in Entomology or related field with a strong focus on Entomology
  • Teaching experience in Entomology at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels is required.
  • Experience in teaching topics related to general entomology, ecophysiology, insect diversity, insect form and function, apiculture, forensic entomology, parasitology, medical veterinary entomology, conservation, pest management and entomological bio-control.  Experience in research in general or applied entomological topics.
  • Research supervision of at least Masters’ degrees required to completion.
  • Emerging national profile in the discipline.
  • Track record of research publication and evidence of attracting funding
  • Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).

Associate Professor:

  • At least a PhD in Entomology or related field with a strong focus on Entomology
  • Considerable teaching experience in Entomology at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
