Ronwen Williams injured, could he miss the Kaizer Chiefs match?
Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams missed the team’s midweek match against Marumo Gallants due to injury.
The Bafana Bafana captain has suffered more injuries in the past 12 months than he has most of his career. On Wednesday night, Downs fielded Denis Onyango during their 3-1 Betway Premiership victory over Gallants at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium.
With Sundowns playing in three different competitions, they need to have their experienced keeper back in the field as soon as possible. The good news is that Ronwen Williams only suffered a minor injury and should be back in action in a couple of days.
Speaking after the match, Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso said Onyango’s red card made things complicated going into the next game.
“I think the [red cards] affect [us] always because you never know what happens in the next game. So, it always affects [us],” he said as per FARPost.
“Ronwen [Williams] is our first goalkeeper, and Dennis has been on the [good] level because today [Wednesday], again, I remember he [made] a wonderful save from a header that could have been very dangerous.
Ronwen Williams injured again
“So, he has been on the [good] level. But I believe that Ronwen will have recovered from a small problem that he had today, and he will be able to go on goal.
“Otherwise we have Jody [February], we have Sanele [Tshabalala], we have Reyaad Pieterse. So, for sure, someone will stand up if we need some goalkeeper.”
Ronwen Williams could miss Sundowns’next match against TS Galaxy but should be fit for the Kaizer Chiefs match in two weeks.
