The key purpose of this role is to ensure optimum utilization of plant, raw materials and people, to produce quality product at minimum cost which meets customer requirements while complying with legislation.
Key roles and responsibilities:
Asset Care
- Partake in the development of the asset care plan for the packaging hall, contributing suggestions and providing expert advice Implement the asset care plan for the packaging hall, ensuring that the engineering team have the required competencies
- Ensure that asset care goals are incorporated into engineering team and individual goals Audit compliance to the asset care programme by both the engineering team and the shift base teams
- Ensure that asset care competencies are developed in the engineering team. Where training needs have been identified, through the training controller, ensure these are addressed
- Exercise budgetary controls over the asset care requirements of the packaging hall
Plant Reliability
- Responsible for the overall reliability and up time of the packaging hall
- Lead the engineering team in the provisioning of asset care and engineering support to the shift based production teams
- Verifies that the engineering team are carrying out routine and planned maintenance, and validates quality of work
- Verifies that the maintenance systems are working properly and that data integrity and information accuracy is maintained
- Reviews plant reliability to ensure that equipment is operating optimally and to identify problems or opportunities timeously
- Takes part in maintenance problem solving, and ensure that the engineering team is applying the correct problem solving techniques
Plant Optimisation
- Takes part in the Regional and Central Office plant optimization trials, providing advice, assistance and guidance where require d Evaluates impact of new plant and equipment, and signs off all plant and equipment modifications
- Analyses plant performance data to identify opportunities for improvement to plant performance and initiates opportunity evaluation
- Analyses plant failure modes and investigate causes for repeat failures to correct root causes
- Takes part in evaluating continuous improvement opportunities identified by the production teams or engineering support
- Ensures that continuous improvement is built into engineering team goals and forms part of regular goal review sessions
Team Leadership
- Lead the engineering team in a manner that engenders ownership, empowerment and team interaction
- Lead the development of engineering team goals and ensure these are communicated and understood by team members
- Conduct regular engineering team goal review sessions, and conduct regular one on one and performance reviews
- Ensure training need analyses are conducted and training plans developed for team members
- Ensure appropriate competencies are developed in the team, and ensure cross skilling occurs within the engineering team
Safety and Housekeeping
- Ensure that the engineering team apply proper safety and housekeeping procedures, and adhere to all legal requirements when carrying out their tasks
- Ensure implementation of the appropriate SAB and legislative policies (such as OSH act) on safety and housekeeping
- Ensure that safety and housekeeping receive the appropriate focus through regular checks and safety audits
- Where unsafe work practice have been identified, the packaging engineer is responsible for correcting this Drive Safety and legal compliance in the Packaging Hall as a 2 (7) appointee

The Keypurposeof this role is to systemically improve equipment reliability ( Bottle ,Crate and Pallet Conveyors ) by optimizing maintenance costs in order to achieve the Departmental Dream, by working with Zone
Technical Experts, Vendor Technical Experts and brewery personnel.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
- Maintain a safe, healthy and risk-free working environment for ( Bottle ,Crate and Pallet Conveyors )
- Provide equipment that is safe to operate, compliant to environmental requirements and can delivery products that meet the required quality requirements.
- Support and coaching of Contractors to achieve 100% Uptime, Zero Safety incidents, Zero Quality incidents, VIC usages like water, energy , Luebe etc. in control
- Must have a deep understanding VPO, The Safety , Maintenance , Quality, Management and Logistic pillars.
- Must know how the VPO pillars are interconnected to support the journey to world class operations
- Drive the implementation of Autonomous Operations (ATO ) through hands-on execution of each of the ATO steps .
- Equipment to be restored to an “as new” condition, in which initial deterioration is eliminated or controlled during MEOP windows .
- Provides a stable maintenance platform from which natural deterioration linked failures can be appropriately addressed with preventive , predictive and restoration maintenance activities.
- Continuously check the maintenance Plan for 16 weeks ahead in advance to identify resources , spares and required time for the outages .
- Manage the backlog within (4 to 7) weeks and improve MTTR YOY while increasing the MTBF YOY.
- Set up Base line Budgets yearly for ZBB / VIC / UPP maintenance costs for Short ,Medium- and long-term plans and ensure spends are within the approve budgets .
- Optimize budgets to meet the daily , weekly , monthly and yearly budget agree spend by ensuring root causes for failures has been identified and loop closures are implemented to preventive high cost .
- Continuously look for improvement in spares material by redesigning and reproducing it with an improved lifespan ensuring it meets the quality standards and at a lower price than OEM/OMM
- Actively participate with coaching contractors and line team members in problem solving (5 Why reviews, Problem Terminator , Abnormality Reports and PDCA , ITF’s) to provide deep technical knowledge to ensure correct root causes has been identified so that suitable preventive measures has been implemented to prevent repeat failures from reoccurrence.
- Manage machine related projects for selected machine group to improve overall performance (reliability, quality and cost) as agreed with Pack Engineer or ZTE
- Project completion on time, within budget and according to agreed GTS specifications , all gaps identified and close off including spares parts , manuals and training material is available for team.
- Collaboration with ZTE’s, Vendor’s and Reverse Engineering Specialist to deliver KPI’s
- Use data driven techniques to identify gaps in machine performance develop, train and assess technical skills interventions to improve skills related performance gaps
- Improved equipment performance as a result of improved technical skills of relevant personnel
- Codification of technical knowledge through SOP’s and SWI’s to be created and role out to current / new employees checking for competencies.
- Regular assessments to be carried on equipment identifying gaps and plan in place to be closed out in a suitable time frame .
- Monthly use data driven techniques to sustain and drive systemic improvements in equipment reliability for selected machine group by developing, improving and optimizing preventive and predictive maintenance plans
- Build Data base for critical spares to be created in the system and ensure that the maintenance package (Bill of materials) is regularly updated.
- Stores walkabout to be done regularly identifying unused spares to be written off and ensuring all critical spares is in good condition and available incase of breakdowns .
- Liaise with different suppliers and hold them responsible for quality of spares.
- Draft up an SLA with contracting company for Labour to maintain , lubricate and clean conveyors in a safe manner following SAFE process .
- Ensure all contractors is knowledgeable of the different VPO pillars allowing them to maintain the equipment

The key purpose of this role is to safely shunt malt and barley trucks as per planning schedule and malting production requirements; To coordinate and assist in barley sampling, and loading of malt rail and road trucks
Key roles and responsibilities:
Raw Materials handling and storage
- Interpret and execute barley out loading and malt loading plans

- Monitor temporary staff for barley sampling and malt loading activities

- Weighing in and out of barley, malt and coal trucks and ensure that consigned and received weights are not more than 200kg out
- Check barley hopper is clean prior to off loading
- Responsibile in executing 5S and ATO activities

- Trucks to be offloaded within 1 hour after receiving ATO slips
Dispatch
- Check that all road / rail trucks are QC passed before malt loading
- Checking trucks are cleaned before malt loading
- Brooming malt trucks (36 tonnes per truck) and M/S and A/S
- Ensure that malt out loading area is cleaned daily once trucks dispatched
- Ensure trucks are not leaking oil
- Ensure malt trucks are sealed prior to dispatch and that all documentation are faxed to Spoornet
Hygiene
- Cleaning of all weighbridges
- Cleaning of all rail points
- Cleaning of spillages that occur during shift, hopper, and weighbridges
Perform administration
- Completion of all shift reporting systems (MES)
- Updating planning board
- Completion of Shunter checklist per shift
- Complete shift handover sheet

The key purpose of this role is to maintain equipment in an as new condition, assuring reliable performance to standard through inspections, corrective actions to restore equipment back to inherent condition, problem solving to address root cause of failures and loop closure and provide input into the ZBB maintenance budget. Coaches’ operators in the correct way to operate equipment and perform autonomous operations.

OPERATIONAL SUPPORT:
- Provide specialist support to the shift-based teams during operations

- This must be undertaken in support of the Process Artisan Where requested, provide guidance and advice to the shift-based teams

Key roles and responsibilities:
Operational Support
- Provide specialist support to the shift-based teams during operations
- Assist as functional expert in problem solving. This must be undertaken in support of the Process Artisan
- Where requested, Provide guidance and advice to the shift-based teams on mechanical equipment, mechanical fault-finding and correct responses to mechanical failure mode
Planned Maintenance
- Take part in maintenance planning meeting, contributing suggestions and clarifying work required

Through the execution of VPO routines which include but not limited to the execution of quality control checks, analyses and problem solving. Training, coaching and assessing (OWD) of other team members and supporting the maintenance department in execution of their routines.

Minimum requirements:
- Matric or equivalent e.g. NQF level 4
- Min – 6 months on the job training

- Post Matric qualification
- National Diploma or equivalent in Engineering/Sciences
- General Certificate in maltings (GCM)
- 12 months on the job training
- 100% SKAP in at least one other role
- 1 – 3 years experience in a malting environment
- Previous experience in a process-controlled manufacturing environment, ideally in food FMCG products.
