’Saleng to Kaizer Chiefs would make him the FIGO of Mzansi’
Never say never in football. If Saleng jumped ship from Orlando Pirates to Kaizer Chiefs he’d become the Luis Figo of South Africa.
Saleng’s saga rumbles on as Orlando Pirates exit becomes a possibility
After hesitating to sell Monnapule Saleng, and with all possible suitors knowing he’s unhappy at the club, that will certainly drive his price down. Pirates’ bargaining position is significantly weakened. The player’s reluctance to stay is a big issue but that doesn’t mean they can’t get a good sum for the 26-year-old. The record departure in Pirates history was €2.3 million (R44 million) when Mbulelo ‘Oldjohn’ Mabizela moved to Tottenham in 2003-2004. It’s unlikely the Sea Robbers can fetch a number in that region, but there’s no reason why the 2022-2023 PSL Player of the Year shouldn’t command a decent fee. They should be looking to recover at least half (R22 million) especially if they can bring Sundowns to the market. The main question there is; do they want to strengthen a rival? Can Kaizer Chiefs afford him?
Saleng’s people issue a public statement
Amid speculation and ongoing media gossip, P Management has stated there are “significant issues at the core of the employer-employee relationship”. However, they also insisted together with their client, Saleng, they remain committed to finding an “amicable solution”.
Figo’s Barcelona betrayal
Portuguese superstar Luis Figo did the unthinkable in the year 2000.
Via BBC:
“You may already know how it all began, when Barcelona’s most admired player of the time, Luis Figo, left to join Real Madrid in 2000.
Two years later, the Portuguese midfielder’s return to Barca in the white shirt of their bitter rivals produced one of the most dramatic evenings in Spanish football history.
That Saturday, 23 November 2002, emotions ran high and a pig’s head – among many other things – was launched onto the Nou Camp pitch in Figo’s direction as Barca fans lashed out at a man they had once so adored.”
