Saleng to play for Bafana Bafana on Friday? Here’s what we know
Orlando Pirates winger Monnapule Saleng hasn’t kicked a ball since December 7 as tensions between the two parties grow.
The 26-year-old began the season in fine form, scoring five in thirteen games, including the leveller in the MTN8 Cup final, igniting the Sea Robbers 3-1 victory over Stellenbosch FC.
Bafana Bafana, after a three-month hiatus, will return to action against Egypt on February 28 and March 9 in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers, begging the question: is Saleng, who has been picked for selection, eligible to play while facing Orlando Pirates sanctions?
The agency speaks
Saleng’s representation, P Management Sports, has listed several legislations as to why Orlando Pirates will have to release the winger:
“This matter involves significant issues at the core of the employer-employee relationship that require [a] resolution,
“Our client [Saleng] remains committed to addressing these matters through the appropriate legal and professional channels,” the agency confirmed.
“Clubs are obliged to release their registered players to the representative teams of the country for which the player is eligible to play on the basis of his nationality if they are called up by the association concerned,
“The release of players under the terms of paragraph 1 of this article is mandatory for all international windows listed in the international match calendar.”
The Orlando Pirates star has been selected in Hugo Broos’ upcoming CHAN squad, fueling speculation of his return to the pitch – it would be a beloved sight for many.
