SANBS Bursary 2025 for Tertiary Students

About SANBS Bursary

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is accepting applications for 2025 academic year bursaries.

10 bursaries will be awarded, for studies towards a Bachelor of Health Sciences, with Immunohematology (Blood transfusion) as one of the elective subjects.

Through this bursary programme, SANBS aims to provide funding to students within the scarce and critical skills field of blood transfusion, while contributing to the national goal of increasing access to higher education.

The bursary will cover the following expenses:

  • Tuition fees, up to R40 000 per annum
  • Study materials, up to R10 000 per annum
  • Partial cover of accommodation, up to R1 500 per month, for 10 months
  • Stipend of R3 500 per month, for 10 months
  • Work Integrated Learning, which includes a hands-on experience at SANBS laboratories

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be under 30 years old
  • You must be studying towards a Bachelor of Health Sciences, with Immunohematology as one of your elective subjects
  • You must be in your 2nd or 3rd year of study
  • You must be passionate about your studies
  • You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% in your previous year of study
  • You must NOT be receiving any other financial support through any other bursary
  • Preference may be given to students in financial need, who cannot afford to attend university without a bursary, with a total household income of NOT more than R600 000 per annum
