SASSA SRD grant payment for February 2025: Paid early?
SASSA SRD grant payment dates for February 2025 is here, so let’s find out how you can get paid early.
February might be the shortest month of the year, but for South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) SRD grant beneficiaries, it means early payments. SASSA has confirmed that February’s SRD grants will be processed over five days, beginning Monday, February 24, 2025.
SASSA has officially announced that beneficiaries will start receiving their payments earlier than usual due to the month’s shorter duration. Payments will be processed between February 24 and February 28, 2025.
Only beneficiaries who have been approved for February 2025 will receive their grants. SASSA reminded recipients to verify their payment dates online.
“Payments (for clients who are approved for the month of February 2025) will be processed from 24 – 28 February 2025,” the agency stated.
To avoid confusion or delays, beneficiaries should check their SRD status on the official SASSA website.
“Clients are encouraged to view their status on the SRD website for the exact date that payment will reflect into their bank accounts,” SASSA added.
Why some SASSA payments were delayed
Earlier this year, SASSA informed some SRD beneficiaries that January payments were delayed due to multiple issues. One major setback involved Ithala bank account holders, whose accounts were temporarily frozen, preventing them from receiving funds on time.
Two million beneficiaries still need to swap gold cards
In a related development, more than two million social grant recipients still need to transition from the SASSA/Postbank Gold Card to the new Black Card, according to Postbank CEO Nikki Mbengashe.
Speaking to Parliament’s social development committee, Mbengashe provided an update on the card transition process and measures to ease long queues. She reported that while approximately three million people use the SASSA Gold Card. But only 629,000 have made the switch to the Black Card so far.
To accommodate the transition, the government has extended the deadline. So that you can replace Gold Cards from February 28 to March 20, 2025. Postbank assures beneficiaries that the new cards offer enhanced security and comply with updated banking standards.
Challenges in the Black Card transition
Despite the extended deadline, the transition has faced obstacles such as long travel distances to service points, excessive queues, and system downtimes. Postbank has fallen short of its goal to issue 23,000 Black Cards daily.
“The main reason was that 90% of the time, people were just not showing up. Our tellers were sitting there doing nothing for the first three months. Yes, intermittently the connection to Home Affairs was 10% to blame. But truly 90% of the reason was because people just didn’t show up,” Mbengashe stated.
As the deadline approaches, beneficiaries are urged to collect their new Black Cards as soon as possible to ensure uninterrupted grant payments.
