Section Ventilation Officer

- PURPOSE OF ROLE
The Section Ventilation Officer is responsible for the maintenance of ventilation, refrigeration, and occupational hygiene systems and to provide the Shaft Ventilation Engineer with information to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
- WORK OF ROLE
Achieving legal compliance
Advise to management on business area ventilation and occupational hygiene planning, technical systems and administration
Assist in short term ventilation and occupational hygiene planning (6-12 months)
Assist in the development of best practices, standards and procedures
Assist in the implementation and maintenance of emergency preparedness programmes
Conduct risk assessments and participate in audits
Conducts daily ventilation and occupational hygiene inspections and records findings
Maintain ventilation and occupational hygiene strategies and systems
Management of resources and assets
Measure compliance to Sections 5.1(1), 9.2(2), 16.1(1) (MHSA) and chapter 12 of the Mine Health and Safety Act (occupational health risk assessment and monitoring)
Measure compliance to the ventilation engineering and occupational hygiene regulations of the Mine Health and Safety Act pertaining to monitoring and reporting at business area level
Participate in mining ventilation and occupational hygiene technology studies
Provide solutions to specific ventilation and occupational hygiene matters (known or identified via trend analysis)
Report and advice on ventilation and occupational hygiene matters
Report findings and recommend appropriate interventions
Sets daily, weekly and monthly ventilation and occupational hygiene targets
Ventilation and occupational hygiene programmes are properly administered
- QUALIFICATIONS
- Grade 12
- Chamber of Mines Certificate in Mine Environmental Control
Advantageous:
- Member of the Mine Ventilation Society
- Certificate in Occupational Hygiene
- Certificate in Occupational Hygiene Risk Assessment
- Certificate in Occupational Hygiene Legislation
- EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in the ventilation and occupational hygiene discipline
- KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Computer literate in MS Office, Microstation, Delta, and other specialised technical programs

Survey Systems Officer

- PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Survey Systems Officer is responsible for all MTS systems related maintenance and product implementations within the technical services environment, and to ensure the continuity of the technical services systems infrastructure.
- WORK OF ROLE
Adhere to the requirements of the regulations of the Minerals Acts as applicable to mine surveying
Assist in delivering survey technical services system-related projects within time, cost, and performance
Ensure that all the reporting programmes and platforms in the MTS department are fully functional and properly maintained
Keep track and records of all the correspondence or communications between the MTS department and the service provider
Maintain MTS systems such as planning design and schedule programmes
Maintain own equipment
Optimize MTS technical services system utilisation
Perform tasks in accordance with and adherence to the provisions of the MHSA as well as mine standards
Safeguard all data/plans and information
Stay abreast with the latest applicable technological developments
Technical services systems are aligned with business requirements
Timeously reporting and logging any defects of the MTS programmes to the service provider
- QUALIFICATIONS
- Grade 12
- Mining or Survey Diploma
- Chamber of Mines Elementary Survey and Elementary Sampling Certificate
- Chamber of Mines Draughting Certificate – Advantageous
- EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 3 – 5 years’ experience in Mine Planning, Survey/Survey Draughting, preferably in an electronic / IT environment
- Understanding of applicable systems
- KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Valid driver’s license
- Computer literacy for role
- Knowledge of survey systems
