Hip-Hop Icon Shares His Experience

South African hip-hop legend and entrepreneur Slikour, real name Siyabonga Metane, recently opened up about a terrifying hit-and-run incident that left him hospitalised.

On Saturday, February 22, Slikour was out for a run when he was struck by a car. The artist took to Instagram to share his ordeal, revealing that the driver fled the scene. Despite the shock and injuries, he expressed gratitude that the situation was not worse.

Raising Awareness on Hit-and-Run Cases

Slikour’s post shed light on the alarming frequency of hit-and-run cases in South Africa. He recalled a conversation with a hospital nurse who informed him that such incidents are unfortunately common. This revelation deeply disturbed him, prompting him to use his platform to raise awareness.

“While running today, I got hit and run by a car. I’m okay, thank God, but what traumatised me is when the nurse at the hospital told me how common hit-and-run patients are in South Africa,” he wrote.

A Message to Fellow Runners and Walkers

Understanding the risks that joggers and pedestrians face, Slikour urged fitness enthusiasts to stay alert while exercising outdoors. He highlighted how these reckless drivers have no regard for people’s safety, health goals, or well-being.

“I know there’s a community of us doing our jogs and walks. I’d like to appeal to you to please be vigilant. These perpetrators don’t care about you, your health goals, or whatever gets you up,” he warned.

Adding a touch of humor, he joked, “Also, I know if I was listening to Kendrick and not Drake on my pods, this wouldn’t have happened to me.”

Gratitude and a Call for Safety

Despite the traumatic experience, Slikour expressed relief that he escaped without more severe injuries. He shared his story not just as a personal reflection but as a cautionary tale for others.

“Seriously though, be safe out there. There are many families affected by reckless driving, and I’m only posting this because I’m grateful my situation wasn’t worse. I wouldn’t want anyone else experiencing this,” he concluded.

Community Support and Reactions

Following his post, fans, fellow artists, and fitness enthusiasts flooded social media with messages of support. Many shared their own concerns about pedestrian safety, calling for stricter traffic regulations and increased awareness.

Slikour’s experience is a stark reminder of the dangers pedestrians face daily. His message encourages runners, walkers, and drivers alike to be more mindful on the roads.
