What is a Merchandiser?
A Merchandiser is someone who makes sure that products in stores are displayed properly. Your job is to keep the
shelves full, make everything look neat, and help customers find what they need. You’ll also work on creating fun and
eye-catching displays that help stores sell more. Basically, you’ll be the person behind the great-looking shop layouts
that people enjoy walking through.
What Will You Be Doing Each Day?
Here’s what your daily work as a Merchandiser will include:
Stock Control: You’ll check how much stock there is, unpack new products, and make sure everything is in the
right place.
Display Planning: You’ll help design how products are displayed in the store so they look good and grab
attention.
Pricing and Cleaning: You’ll make sure all products have the correct price tags and that nothing is expired or
damaged.
Teamwork: You’ll work closely with other departments like sales and marketing to make sure everything runs
smoothly.
Helping Customers: You’ll answer questions, give product advice, and help with complaints when needed.
Store Cleanliness: You’ll also make sure the store and storage areas are clean and tidy.
At the end of the day, your hard work will help the store look great, boost sales, and give shoppers a positive
experience.
What You’ll Need to Apply
To be considered for this Merchandiser role at Tops at SPAR, here’s what you need:
A Matric certificate (also known as a National Senior Certificate)
A smartphone with at least 10GB of space
Your own Vodacom SIM card (This is important for the job tools you’ll use)
An ID document, SARS letter, and bank confirmation letter
You must live within 15km of the job location
You need to speak and understand English
A clear criminal record is required
Previous experience in retail, merchandising, or customer service is a big plus, but not required. If you’re friendly, willing
to learn, and a good team player, this role is perfect for you.
