Position Purpose
The Shop Assistant role at SPAR is a permanent, entry-level position designed to deliver exceptional customer service and support daily store operations. Based at SUPERSPAR or KWIKSPAR stores across South Africa, Shop Assistants assist customers, manage stock, and maintain store standards. With a market-related salary (approximately R5,000–R8,000/month), this role offers stability and growth for candidates passionate about retail and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist customers with product queries, purchases, and returns to ensure a positive shopping experience.
- Restock shelves and maintain product displays according to SPAR’s merchandising standards.
- Operate cash registers and process transactions accurately.
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages to supervisors.
- Maintain a clean and tidy store environment, adhering to health and safety regulations.
- Assist with receiving and unpacking deliveries to ensure stock availability.
- Support promotional activities, including setting up signage and special displays.
- Collaborate with team members to achieve daily sales and service targets.

Eligibility Criteria
- South African citizen with a valid ID, aged 18–35 (preferred).
- Grade 12 certificate (Matric or Senior Certificate).
- Minimum 1-2 years of retail or customer service experience (e.g., cashier, sales assistant).
- Clear criminal record, verified through background checks.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
- Ability to organize own transport to and from work.
Preferences
- Experience in a retail environment (e.g., supermarkets, convenience stores).
- Proficiency in a second language (e.g., isiZulu, Afrikaans).
