Springboks set to add another Test to 2025 schedule
As the Springboks get set for their first alignment camps this year, it has interestingly been confirmed that options are being investigated for a match prior to the Incoming Series, when Rassie Erasmus’ team take on Italy in back-to-back Tests on 5 and 12 July, followed by a clash against Georgia on 19 July.
Last year the Springboks opened their Test season with a one-off game against Wales in London on 22 June, and so something similar could now be on the cards.
It would be an opportunity for Erasmus to select a new-look side and expose a few more newcomers to the Springbok Test arena.
Earlier this week it was revealed that a group of 26 players consisting mainly of overseas-based players, as well as some talented youngsters and injured players, had been invited to virtual alignment camps.
In addition to this group, 56 players have already been invited to an in-person Cape Town camp, which will bode well for the team’s preparations for the 2025 season.
Following on from the mid-year matches, the Springboks will then aim to defend their Rugby Championship title against Australia, New Zealand and Argentina between August and October, before the traditional Outgoing Tour in November.
