Star still on course to sign for Orlando Pirates over Kaizer Chiefs?

Both Kaizer Chiefs andOrlando Pirates were believed to be ready to sign two Polokwane City stars in January. 

Ultimately, for different reasons both Chiefs and Pirates lost out on the Polokwane duo but could return end of season. 

It was believed that Pirates would announce deals for Polokwane duo Oswin Appollis and Thabang Matuludi in January. In the end, the deal did not happen. Those were also players that were of interest to Chiefs. It was believed that Amakhosi made a bid for Appollis but it was subsequently turned down.

Chiefs and Pirates both interested in Matuludi

It was then thought that when a double deal looked unlikely, Pirates explored a deal for just Matuludi. But the right-back got a season ending injury which also ended any possibility of moving. That could, in turn also open up the possibility of Chiefs returning for his services next season. 

Now according to Soccer-Laduma, Matuludi was on the verge of choosing Pirates over Chiefs in January. But that injury scuppered that. Now, it is believed that he could still join the Buccaneers after he recovers from the injury. 

Started rehab

“He (Matuludi) has started his rehab. It has been earlier than we expected. The injury was very bad, and that he has started just a month after his injury, means things are going well for him. Yes, we believe he will be back before the end of the season. Even next month he can be back. He is progressing very well,” said an insider to the Soccer-Laduma. 

A second source then confirmed that Matuludi could’ve joined Pirates if it wasn’t for that injury. He also believes he could now do so, over Chiefs in the next window. 

Set to join Pirates over Chiefs after recovery?

“From what I know, what disturbed the move to Orlando Pirates was the injury he (Matuludi) picked up against SuperSport United in January. Pirates would apparently not sign an injured player and now that he is recovering then the move is believed to be back on the table probably for the next transfer window,” the second source said.
