Former Kaizer Chiefs star Frank Makua is confident that Thabo Cele can help Amakhosi defeat Mamelodi Sundowns this weekend.

The two teams play each other for the third time this season at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Downs have won their last two meetings and have dominated the fixture over the years.

Having lost 2-1 in the Betway Premiership in September, Amakhosi played the Brazilians again a month later in the Carling Knockout quarter-finals hoping for revenge but were hammered 4-0.

Makua is confident that Kaizer Chiefs will turn the corner this weekend, tipping Cele to be the man to win it for the Glamour Boys

“I believe they will rectify their mistakes from the previous match against SuperSport United, though it will not be easy given Sundowns’ impressive form this season. The challenge is that Sundowns are always highly motivated when facing Kaizer Chiefs, never taking anything for granted. However, I have faith that Chiefs will perform better this time around,” he told KickOff.

“I don’t see them losing to Sundowns. In these types of games, players need to perform regardless of their form. Motivation should never be an issue. Many believe Sundowns will easily overcome Chiefs, but they often overlook that football is full of surprises.”

Cele tipped to lead Kaizer Chiefs to victory

Makua believes Chiefs will win or get a result if they play as a team.

“The Chiefs players must approach the game as a cohesive unit. No individual heroics; it’s crucial to stick to the coach’s game plan. I believe Thabo Cele has the potential to lead us to victory, even though it will be a daunting task for Kaizer Chiefs. They must not let their heads drop if they concede an early goal, as Sundowns can capitalize and finish you off if given the chance.”
