Themba Zwane makes decision on potential Kaizer Chiefs move!
Kaizer Chiefs have signed 10 players in the two transfer windows they have had with new coach Nasreddine Nabi.
Nabi arrived at a Chiefs side that finished 10th in the Betway Premiership last season, their worst ever finish.
Nabi looking to add more experience
He made it clear that his objective was to improve his current squad, while also signing players of Chiefs’ quality. His main priority upon arrival was a striker. He was only able to address that in January, with a free signing of Tashreeq Morris from SuperSport United. The next big issue he picked up was the lack of experience in the members of his first team squad.
Though Chiefs signed seasoned professionals in Fiacre Ntwari, Miguel Cardoso, Gaston Sirino, Njabulo Blom and Bongani Sam it wasn’t enough. Ntwari eventually got dropped, Blom arrived injured and unfit, Sirino also got injured and Sam has been surplus to requirements. This saw Amakhosi go into the market to sign more experienced stars.
Chiefs have made 10 signings under him
More than Morris, Chiefs also added Thabo Cele and Glody Lilepo, who all went straight to the starting line up. It is believed are looking for similar signings in the close season window. One of their rumoured targets was Mamelodi Sundowns stalwart Themba Zwane. The Bafana Bafana star will see his contract expire at the end of the season. He has also been out of action due to a long-term injury. That has raised questions over the viability of him staying at an ambitious side the like the Brazilians.
That would have had Chiefs licking their lips, as they were thought to be monitoring his situation. But now according to Soccer-Laduma, Zwane is set to stay at Sundowns!
Zwane set to snub Amakhosi for Sundowns stay!
“The new deal is as good as done and the coach has played an important part in that. As a way of honouring him (Zwane), the club (Sundowns) has given him a one-year contract offer plus a one-year option as they want him to be part of the FIFA Club World Cup in June and that’s when his contract was supposed to expire. They believe it’s a good move as he has dedicated his life to the club for a long time and the new deal is more of a reward for his dedication and commitment to the club,” said the source to the same publication.
Is this a good decision?
Well that seems to be that then for Chiefs in their pursuit of Zwane, but nothing is official until signed. Amakhosi fans would you have liked to have the veteran playmaker at your club?
