South African pop sensation Tyla is making waves globally, and her latest feat is gracing the cover of the March 2025 edition of British Vogue.

TYLA, THE SUPERSTAR

Tyla’s meteoric rise to fame has been nothing short of phenomenal. She recently attended the Grammys and released a hit single titled PUSH 2 START.

Her unique sound blends influences from icons like Michael Jackson, Aaliyah, Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Britney Spears.

“I always used to watch my mom make it,” Tyla reminisces about cooking pap and wors, according to Jacaranda.

“My mom’s going to probably shout at me like, ‘You’re drinking?’” she jokes in a cooking video for Vogue.

TYLA AND BRITISH VOGUE

In an exclusive video for British Vogue, Tyla stepped into the kitchen to prepare one of South Africa’s beloved dishes: pap with boerewors (sausages) and chutney.

She humorously warned fellow South Africans not to judge her culinary skills. “Guys, if you are South African please do not judge how I make it. Everybody makes it different”.

This dish holds special significance for Tyla as it reminds her of family gatherings in Johannesburg.

COVER GIRL

Photographed by Rafael Pavarotti in a stunning pink Balenciaga bustier worth thousands of rand (approximately R20-30 thousand), Tyla embodies elegance on the cover.

Chioma Nnadi from British Vogue praised her as “a refreshing new direction in music” who also shines as a fashion icon, according to Smile FM.

Tyla shared her excitement about being featured on such an iconic magazine. During an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, she shared “It’s literally insane. I’m so happy”.

TYLA’S PUSH 2 START

She described working with the team as fun. “We were trying on so many different outfits; we were having fun with it”.

Despite achieving superstardom status globally—spending more time in New York City—Tyla still misses simple pleasures back home.

She reminisced about enjoying sunshine or visiting Nando’s without being recognised everywhere she goes, according to Times Live.

SOUTH AFRICAN TALENT

“My parents have always been very protective,” she revealed when discussing concerns about entering an industry facing challenges.

Tyla’s journey is not just about reaching international heights but also about embracing who she is—a proud South African artist making waves worldwide while keeping close ties to home.
