Job Description

Background

Hosted by the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the Multi-Partner Trust Fund Office (MPTF Office) is the only United Nations entity exclusively dedicated to designing and administering multi-stakeholder pooled financing instruments. Since its inception in 2003, the MPTF Office has facilitated over 200 UN-implemented pooled funds, offering an integrated platform for inter-agency pooled fund services that advance progress toward collective outcomes, such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Currently, the MPTF Office manages a portfolio exceeding $16 billion, with more than $1.8 billion in contributions annually, encompassing over 150 active pooled financing mechanisms.

As a leader in trust fund management, the MPTF Office sets standards within the UN System, exemplifying professionalism, transparency, and independence from UN implementing entities. It employs various tools and systems, including the MPTF Office Gateway — a digital platform designed to enhance the administration of these funds. Operating as a dedicated business unit within the UN framework, the MPTF Office provides integrated trust fund services complemented by offerings such as data analytics, research administration, and knowledge management.

This internship will play a pivotal role in enhancing and expanding the use of the MPTF Office Gateway integrated platform, facilitating digital tools for fund design, administration, and financial data management. As an intern, you will engage with various teams within the MPTF Office and Fund Secretariats, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and promoting best practices across the platform.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a Knowledge Management Intern, you will be responsible for a range of tasks, including but not limited to:

Knowledge Management System Development:

    • Assist in the development and maintenance of knowledge management systems and databases, ensuring they are up to date and user-friendly.
    • Contribute to managing the Gateway page on the UNDP/MPTFO internal SharePoint, facilitating easy access to necessary information.

    Creation of Knowledge Products:

      • Collaborate with team members to create knowledge products, such as guides, briefs, and presentations related to Gateway processes and workflows, thus ensuring the information is well-presented and accessible.

      Event Organization and Facilitation:

        • Support the organization and facilitation of knowledge-sharing events and interactive workshops that encourage staff engagement and information exchange.
        • Help design the structure of these events to ensure they meet their objectives effectively.

        Stakeholder Engagement:

          • Actively engage with stakeholders through various platforms, such as the Gateway website, SharePoint Gateway page, and LinkedIn, to promote knowledge-sharing initiatives.
          • Foster collaboration and communication among various teams and stakeholders to enrich the knowledge base.

          Insight Gathering and Contribution Coordination:

            • Coordinate with teams across the organization to gather insights and encourage contributions to enhance the knowledge repository.
            • Participate in projects aimed at improving communication and information sharing regarding the Gateway platform.

            Required Skills and Experience

            Education:

            • You should be enrolled in a Master’s program or in the final year of a Bachelor’s program; alternatively, you can apply within one year after graduating from a Bachelor’s or Master’s program.
            • Degrees in Information Management, Communications, Business Administration, or a related field are preferred. An advanced university degree is an asset.

            Skills and Competencies:

            • Proficiency in MS 365 tools, particularly SharePoint, is essential for successful project execution and collaboration.
            • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, including fluency in English, are required.
            • Familiarity with professional engagement on social media platforms will enhance outreach efforts.
            • A solid understanding of knowledge management principles and practices is advantageous.

            Languages:

            • Proficiency in English is essential. Knowledge of one of the other five official languages of the UN (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) would be an asset.

            Required Documents

To apply for this internship, please submit the following documents:

            1. A current CV and a clearly articulated letter of motivation.
            2. A copy of your school transcript.
            3. Indication of any financial support from other institutions or programs, including the financial amount.

            Conditions

            • Interns will receive a monthly stipend in accordance with UNDP’s Internship policy. Applicants should familiarize themselves with the policy prior to signing the UNDP Internship Agreement Form. If the intern is financially supported by an entity, UNDP will pay the difference between this support and the applicable stipend.
            • Health and Insurance: UNDP does not assume responsibility for medical or life insurance for interns nor any costs arising from accidents or illnesses incurred during the internship. All expenses associated with the internship will be borne by the intern or the sponsoring government or institution.
            • Employment Expectations: The Internship Programme aims to complement an intern’s studies and does not guarantee further employment within the UN System. Consequently, no expectations of employment should arise from this internship.

            Conclusion

The UNDP Knowledge Management Intern position offers an invaluable opportunity for students or recent graduates to gain practical experience in a dynamic, international environment. By engaging with the Multi-Partner Trust Fund Office, you will contribute to essential knowledge management practices that enhance collaboration and efficiency within UNDP. If you are passionate about knowledge management, eager to learn, and ready to make a meaningful impact in a global context, we encourage you to apply for this position before April 16, 2025.
