Job Title: Social Media Specialist

Level: P-3
Contract Type: Fixed Term Appointment
Closing Date: 02 April 2025, 11:59 PM (America/New_York)
Duty Station: New York

The Position

The Social Media Specialist position is situated within the Digital Team of the Media and Communications Branch in the Division for External Relations (DER) at UNFPA. The individual in this role will report directly to the Head of Digital Communication. The incumbent will oversee and execute the day-to-day social media strategy for UNFPA’s global social media channels, ensuring that content aligns with the agency’s mission and resonates with audiences globally.

How You Can Make a Difference

UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) serves as the lead UN agency focused on ensuring that every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person’s potential is fulfilled. With a strategic plan guiding its actions from 2022 to 2025, UNFPA seeks to achieve three transformative results:

  1. End Preventable Maternal Deaths
  2. End Unmet Need for Family Planning
  3. End Gender-Based Violence and Harmful Practices

These priorities are essential to accelerating progress towards the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as we approach the Decade of Action leading to 2030. The strategic plan emphasizes the need for recovery from the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially concerning women’s and young girls’ access to reproductive health services and rights.

In an era when fundamental human rights are increasingly threatened, UNFPA requires principled and ethical staff who embody international norms and standards. We are seeking candidates who can inspire transformation and drive high-impact results, utilizing the resources entrusted to them with transparency and accountability.
