The Knowledge Translation Unit (KTU) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Clinical Content Lead to manage a talented team of clinical content developers. As a health systems research unit, KTU develops, implements, and evaluates clinical guidance for primary care use in public health sectors.

Minimum Requirements:

FINANCE AND OPERATIONS MANAGER

The Nelson Mandela School of Public Governance (The Nelson Mandela School) seeks to appoint a permanent Finance and Operations Manager, starting in February 2025 or soon thereafter. This is a varied and responsible position in a new and growing School, which runs a Research Programme, an Academic Programme (PGDip, MDPP, MPhil and PhD) Programme, an Executive Education short course programme and a series of networking activities and strategic dialogue platforms.

The main purpose of this position is to provide financial management, planning and strategy together with managing a professional administrative, financial and operations service to the Nelson Mandela School. The role also entails management of the administrative staff team and rendering support with respect to HR functions, specifically recruitment of a multidisciplinary team for the Nelson Mandela School. In addition, the successful incumbent will take responsibility for overseeing the financial management of grants and funds received by the School, ensure the necessary and timely financial reporting as well as manage the drafting of the necessary contracts required to formalise relationships with external stakeholders e.g. MOUs and Service Level Agreements.

CHIEF SCIENTIFIC OFFICER

The Marine Biogeochemistry Lab at the University of Cape Town (UCT-MBL) is a world-class oceanic and
atmospheric biogeochemistry laboratory established to address large- and small-scale research questions in Earth Science, particularly those that leverage South Africa’s geographic advantage. The laboratory is equipped with cutting-edge infrastructure, much of it unique on the African continent, that is available to support highquality, high-visibility, and high-impact research and to train the next generation of South African Earth scientists. The UCT-MBL is part of the Isotope and Atmosphere nodes of the Biogeochemistry Research Infrastructure Platform (BIOGRIP), and this position is partially supported by BIOGRIP.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the denitrifier-isotope ratio mass spectrometry (denitrifier-IRMS) facility in the Marine Biogeochemistry Laboratory. This includes the maintenance and repair of the IRMS instrumentation and the custom-built gas-bench, as well as ensuring a wellmaintained facility. They will also be involved in liaising with outside users of the facility and overseeing day-today isotope sample preparation and analyses.

GENERAL WORKERS / GARDENERS

Under the direct supervision of the Gardens Supervisor, the respective worker is required to carry out all tasks set out hereunder in order to achieve the general horticultural and landscape maintenance requirements of the ground’s establishment. It must however be stressed that the nature of the Grounds and Gardens operations is such that individual staff or teams of staff will be required to undertake different functions simultaneously (in other words one team may be undertaking mowing, whilst another
team will be involved with new planting and other team involved with litter collection etc).

Requirements:

  1. Educational and Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum Grade 8 education with at least two years of experience as a landscape maintenance gardener or similar
    role.
  • Experience in the operation of grounds maintenance equipment such as trimmers, chainsaws, weed eaters, blowers,
    and irrigation systems is essential.
  1. Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining gardening equipment, with a strong emphasis on safety and efficiency.
  • Knowledge of horticultural techniques for a wide variety of plant types, including invasive alien vegetation and
    heritage trees, would be advantageous.
  • Experience in hard and soft landscaping techniques, particularly in soil preparation, planting, and irrigation.

Responsibilities:

  1. Grounds Maintenance and Development:
  • Maintain and develop the campus grounds, ensuring they meet the agreed service levels through
    various landscape maintenance activities such as weeding, watering, lawn mowing, edging,
    trimming, aeration, and fertilization of lawns.
  • Perform cleaning tasks, including sweeping of stairways and roadways, debris clearance, and litter collection in and
    around campus areas such as gas facilities and cages.
  • Support campus landscaping projects by preparing soil, planting, and renovating areas through both hard and soft
    landscaping methods.
  1. Horticultural and Arboriculture Care:
  • Provide ongoing care for campus plants, trees, and shrubs through activities like soil cultivation, pruning, seasonal
    growth management, pest control, and plant propagation.
  • Implement plant protection measures by applying mulch, fertilizers, and pest control agents, ensuring the health and
    growth of plants.
  • Perform arboriculture tasks, including tree maintenance, pruning, and the care of heritage and alien species to maintain
    biodiversity on campus.
  1. Health and Safety Compliance
  • Ensure all horticultural and landscaping tasks comply with Health and Safety regulations, including the safe handling of
    power tools, equipment, and chemicals used in gardening.
  • Conduct regular equipment checks and report any maintenance or safety issues promptly.
  1. Collaborative and Supportive Environment:
  • Work collaboratively with other staff members within the Gardens and Grounds teams, contributing to a positive team
    environment.
  • Engage with the wider University community, including academic and professional staff, ensuring that the landscaping
    needs of various departments are met in a timely and efficient manner.
  1. Waste and Sustainability Management:
  • Support sustainability efforts by managing garden waste responsibly, including composting and proper disposal of

FINANCE ADMINISTRATOR
