the field of Pharmacy, pharmaceutics and laboratory-based research in Drug-Delivery Systems

on by the University while they complete their post-graduate studies (PhD).

The incumbent will report to the Dean and Head of School of Health Sciences.

Minimum Requirement:
 An undergraduate degree in Pharmacy;
 A relevant Master’s degree with a pass mark of 70% or above;
 Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council;
 Computer Literacy and
 South African citizen.

The successful candidate will be expected to complete a PhD within 5 years of date of assumption
of duty.
A brief statement of motivation regarding the applicant’s aspiration to become an academic and
a researcher must accompany the application.

The above post will report to the Head of Pharmacy and Academic Leader of the Discipline.

Assistant Data Manager and Fieldwork Supervisor

Assistant Data Manager and Fieldwork Supervisor (1 post)
6-month contract
Centre for Research in Health systems (CRH)

Preamble: The ambit of the CRH includes research and programmes in Health Systems
Strengthening focusing on innovation and service delivery improvement within resource
constrained settings and extending to improving governance, participation and universal health
coverage

Project description: The CRH is seeking a dynamic experienced individual to fill the role of Assistant
Data Manager and Fieldwork Supervisor for a project in uMgungundlovu at the CRH offices in
Durban . The successful incumbent will be responsible for data management tasks using REDCap
as a data management tool, including verifying and resolving queries with the relevant field staff
members, quality-checking interview data on REDCap, additional dating checking as required,
manual and electronic filing of study documents, research related work including transcription
and translation of isiZulu and English documents, and fieldwork supervision, administrative work as
directed by the Project Manager or Data Manager.

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma in Informatics or Information Systems
  • Computer Literacy
  • Minimum of one-year experience as data capturer
  • Minimum 6 months experience in field work supervision in health -related research
  • Valid South African Driver’s license
  • Minimum one year driving experience

Essential requirements:

  • Willing to travel to rural and urban primary health care facilities for supervision of
    fieldworkers
  • Fluency in isiZulu and English
  • Attention to detail with strong analytical ability
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
  • Quality orientation
  • Ability to work independently and fit in well in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in transcription and translation of research related documents

Additional information:
The remuneration package offered will be in line with university salary scales and dependent on the
qualifications and experience of the successful applicant. The contract period is 6 months with the
possibility of extension depending on availability of external funding. Please note this post requires
the incumbent to be based at the CRH office in Durban and to travel to uMgungundlovu District
as required. The project does not cover any relocation or associated costs if applicable, for the
successful candidate who does not reside in the area.

The African Paediatric Fellowship Program-University of KwaZulu-Natal (APFP-UKZN) is a
fellowship program under the auspices of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at
the University of KwaZulu-Natal. The aim of the APFP-UKZN is to create a network of skilled African
healthcare professionals who can develop capacity in child health through clinical service
provision, training, and research in sub-Saharan Africa, to build capacity in Africa to improve
child health, to empower skilled healthcare professionals to use their knowledge gained to lobby
for improving child health in their home countries and, to support sub-specialist capacity
building in South Africa and the African continent

APFP-UKZN wishes to appoint a Programme Administrator to provide administrative support to the
Programme Coordinator and Programme Director.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Three-year relevant diploma or degree qualification
