WATCH: Golfer makes TWO holes-in-one at South African Open

Dale Whitnell made two holes-in-one in the span of 11 holes at the South African Open Championship on Friday.

The Englishman first holed his tee shot at the second from 185 yards with a seven iron, before repeating the rare feat at the 12th with a 50-degree wedge from 128 yards.

After an opening level-par 72, Whitnell enjoyed an electric start to his second round as he aced the second either side of a birdie at the first and an eagle at the par-five third.

Whitnell bounced back from a bogey at the seventh, with a run of three birdies from the eighth through to the 10th to turn in 30.

He dropped a shot at the 11th, but then sensationally made his second hole-in-one at the 12th to get to eight-under for the championship.

After a par – just his fourth of the day – at the 13th, he made back-to-back birdies at the 14th and 15th to get to 10-under.

A birdie-birdie-birdie finish would have seen him become just the second player in DP World Tour history to card a 59, but those hopes were ended after an air shot from the greenside rough led to a double bogey at the 16th.

He settled for a nine-under par 63 to go with him opening round of level-par 72, leaving him on nine-under for the tournament at the halfway mark and well in contention heading into the weekend.

Meanwhile, Daniel van Tonder came inches away from a slam-dunk ace of his own for what would have been an incredible third hole-in-one of the day.

The DP Tour co-sanctioned event carries a total prize fund of $1.5 million.
