Weather update: Gauteng to bask in sunny temperatures this week
Warm temperatures are expected throughout Gauteng this week, following disruptive rain that caused flooding in various areas.
The heavy rains have caused significant damage in several provinces, resulting in at least nine fatalities, numerous houses submerged, road infrastructure damaged, and the temporary closure of three border posts. KwaZulu-Natal has been the most affected province, experiencing a week of intense rain and flooding.
Gauteng temperatures to improve this week
In Gauteng, the Tshwane metro has activated a disaster operations centre to monitor and manage flooding, particularly in Mamelodi, Soshanguve, Hammanskraal, Centurion, and Mabopane. Many houses have been submerged, and in Montana, homes were affected by a tornado on Tuesday.
This week, Gauteng will experience much warmer weather, with maximum temperatures reaching up to 30°C in some regions. On Monday, Pretoria is expected to reach a high of 29°C under sunny conditions, while Johannesburg will likely see a maximum temperature of 26°C.
Rain is only expected later in the week as temperatures drop to mid-20s in Gauteng and surrounding provinces.
