About the Role

As a vital member of WFP’s Programme Résilience team, the Monitoring Assistant will play a key role in ensuring the effective implementation and oversight of various activities within the intervention zones of Kaolack, Kédougou, and surrounding areas. The position, initially contracted for three months with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding, involves meticulous monitoring, reporting, and collaboration with partners to achieve project objectives aligned with WFP’s mission.

Context and Strategic Significance

Senegal faces multifaceted challenges related to food security, nutrition, climate change, and socio-economic development. WFP’s interventions focus on addressing these issues through targeted activities such as nutrition support, food assistance, and resilient agricultural practices. The Monitoring Assistant will be instrumental in tracking progress on these initiatives, ensuring that field activities meet quality standards, and providing actionable insights for decision-makers.

This role is particularly critical as WFP aims to adapt its strategies to evolving needs on the ground, strengthen partnerships with local organizations, and promote sustainable development outcomes. The Monitoring Assistant’s work will directly influence the success and accountability of WFP’s programmes in the region.

Key Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Head of the Kaolack Sub-Office, the Monitoring Assistant will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring the implementation of activities related to nutrition, food assistance, and resilience projects within the intervention zones.
  • Conducting field visits to Salouma and other project sites to collect data, observe activities, and assess progress against established indicators.
  • Collaborating with partners and stakeholders to gather accurate information on project implementation and challenges faced.
  • Analyzing data collected during monitoring visits, preparing reports, and providing recommendations to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Assisting in the development and updating of monitoring tools, databases, and reporting templates.
  • Supporting the documentation of best practices, lessons learned, and success stories.
  • Contributing to the preparation of progress reports, ensuring compliance with donor and organizational standards.
  • Performing any additional tasks as required to support project goals and facilitate smooth operations.

Candidate Profile

To excel in this role, applicants should possess:

  • A university degree (Bac+3) in agriculture, community development, nutrition, project management, or related fields.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in monitoring and evaluation, particularly within agricultural, nutrition, or community development projects.
  • Prior experience with agricultural cooperatives, food security programs, or resilience projects would be advantageous.
  • Strong command of French, both oral and written; knowledge of local languages such as Wolof, Pulaar, or Manding is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with data management tools.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a diverse, multicultural team.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, flexibility, and a proactive attitude toward problem-solving.
