What Gavin Hunt said after beating Kaizer Chiefs
Gavin Hunt was a happy man of Tuesday evening after watching his side trash Kaizer Chiefs 4-1 at the FNB Stadium.
This match played under rainy conditions at the FNB Stadium, showcased an exciting display of football from the very beginning.
Matsatsantsa took an early lead with a goal from ex-Kaizer Chiefs striker Samir Nurkovic. Kaizer Chiefs responded in the 30th minute with a goal from their new signing, Makabi Lilepo. However, just two minutes later, another former Chiefs player, Christian Saile, scored to restore SuperSport’s advantage.
Gavin Hunt’s men scored two more goals in the second half to hand Kaizer Chiefs their sixth league defeat. After the match, the Matsatsantsa coach downplayed the win.
“Well, it’s three points, we never won a cup, we never won anything tonight, we just got three points. We gotta get ourselves out of the difficult situation we are in. We haven’t done well in the league, we know that but it’s not for a lack of effort and trying and commitment is all there,” Hunt said.
“As I said, we’ve been in football for a long time and the first signs you’ll see is the drop of attitude but the attitude has been fine. Players have been good and sometimes in football you don’t get your deserved results.”
Gavin Hunt haunts Kaizer Chiefs again
“I mean the first game we played Chiefs, the 4-0 in the cup, we should have won that game, if you watch that game and the next game we won 1-0, they should have beaten us, Chiefs, in the league.
“So, you tell me about football, that’s what happens sometimes. So, we’ve gotta keep grinding and keep tryna make chances and try to get a combination together. We chop on and change the team every week because of the problems we’ve had.
Gavin Hunt has now taken six points from Kaizer Chiefs this season. Despite the impressive win, SuperSport United are still 12th on the log but are now out of the relegation zone. Hunt believes he has a squad that can compete going forward.
“So, this is pretty much a more settled team in the last three or four games now,” he said.
